2018 German Masters Snooker Qualifying – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of German Masters qualifying takes place on Wednesday with another set of players looking to move to within one win of competing at one of the best venues in the game in the New Year.

There are three sessions of play on Wednesday but unfortunately due to some technical issues we have not been able to get a preview done in time to cover the first one but there are still two sessions for us to go at.

Afternoon Session

The Champion of Champions winner Shaun Murphy is the main act in the afternoon session and as such he is on one of the streamed tables. He will take on Paul Davison for a place in the next round while on the other table Barry Hawkins will go up against Jamie Curtis-Barrett.

There are some good matches on the outside table in this session too with Kyren Wilson against Jack Lisowski the pick of them. Alan McManus faces Dominic Dale while Alexander Ursenbacher meets Ken Doherty. Craig Steadman plays John Astley with Mike Dunn taking on Eden Sharav. Dave Gilbert faces Tian Pengfei in the other match.

Evening Session

Mark Allen will be in the spotlight in the evening session. He takes on Li Yuan for a place in the second round with that match being on one of the main tables. The other streamed match will see Anthony McGill going up against Jimmy White in an interesting clash.

Elsewhere Niu Zhuang will play Ian Preece, Sean O’Sullivan meets Jackson Page, Chen Zifan plays Cao Yupeng while Hossein Vafaei goes up against Liam Highfield. The other match sees Lukas Kleckers who will be desperate to progress when he goes up against Tom Ford.

Betting

I’m going with three bets on Wednesday. In the afternoon session Jack Lisowski is a little too big to see off Kyren Wilson who seems to run into opponents who can score who score heavily against him at the minute. That is very much the profile of Lisowski who is having a decent season. He lost in the first round to John Higgins in Scotland but we won’t hold that against him. If anything it might be a good thing as he has had time to recharge his batteries and go again. At the prices I like him.

I also like Liam Highfield in the evening session who has been playing well against players in the middle and lower end of the rankings recently. Hossein Vafaei is talented and a dangerous opponent but he isn’t in the middle of his best form at the minute. Highfield has had some good weeks and would have had more had he not run into Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson at the last two tournaments. I think he can progress here.

Finally I have to take on Cao Yupeng. I like Cao and have made a lot of money out of him but he has to be opposed after what happened to him at the end of the Scottish Open final on Sunday. Admittedly in an ideal world we would be taking him on with someone between than Chen Zifan but this is all about the mental state of Cao which surely has to be low. In fairness to Chen he has wins over Barry Hawkins and Shaun Murphy this season so if Cao isn’t at it the youngster can nail this.
