2018 Nedbank Golf Challenge – Final Round Betting Preview

The final round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, the penultimate tournament of the European Tour season, takes place out in South Africa on Sunday with some big names set to battle it out for the title and some bumper wages.

There is a lot to play for on Sunday for the entire field. Spots at the Tour finals in Dubai next week are up for grabs while this tournament is still there to be won as well. We are all set for a thrilling conclusion to proceedings.

Round 3 Recap

Sergio Garcia extended his lead during the third round to two shots as he bids to go wire-to-wire on Sunday. He stepped onto the tee on 18 with a four shot lead though but his bogey and the birdie of Louis Oosthuizen means that the South African is now within two strokes heading into the final round. Three men are three shots off of Garcia’s lead and they include our pre-tournament pick Lee Westwood. Thomas Detry and Mikko Korhonen are the other two. Ross Fisher sits on six under and nobody else is within six shots of Garcia.

We had a better day betting wise with Matthew Fitzpatrick coming out on top in his three ball to get back on track for those for the week. Hopefully we can find a winner in them over the final round to come out for the week slightly up if not a little bit better than that.

Sunday Betting

With Garcia seeing his lead clipped the only market we have to go at from an outright point of view is the tournament winner one. Garcia is odds on to get the job done from here but it must be said he has got a little one-paced out in front which is not ideal for him. I can’t be having that around here but Oosthuizen is probably only fairly priced rather than anything special. I actually think Westwood is going to have a right good run at this title on Sunday so I’m happy to take a back seat from this and just rely on him delivering the goods.

Sunday 3 Balls

Thomas Detry joins Sergio Garcia and Louis Oosthuizen in the final group of the day and they head off out at 7.40 GMT with the trio of Westwood, Mikko Korhonen and Ross Fisher out 11 minutes before then at 7.29 GMT. There are some cracking groups out onto the golf course over the course of the morning as this tournament heads towards a potentially exciting conclusion.

Darren Fichardt/Dean Burmester/Benjamin Hebert

Match tees off at 07.18 GMT

The third to last group out onto the course sees the South African pair of Darren Fichardt and Dean Burmester going out alongside the French player Benjamin Hebert with all three hoping that the leading two fail and that they can go low to capitalise.

Realistically I think this trio are playing for cash and the other incentives that a high finish bring. I don’t think any of them can win the tournament. Fichardt has actually defied the odds this week. I say that because he is almost the worst in the fields at hitting the greens. Admittedly the few he has found he has putted well on but with Sunday flags tucked away missing greens is not good. Burmester has barely found a fairway and hasn’t got much going with the short stick this week which makes me think Hebert is worth chancing here.

He is in the top half of the fairways hit in the field and sits seventh in greens in regulation. When he finds the greens he is fourth in the field for putts on them so if he can keep his long game in good order he might well move forward beyond his playing partners and secure a tasty pay out.
