It’s the day of the Craven and, whilst the racing looks good, there are few betting propositions today. It will be worth watching the Craven just to see whether Roaring Lion is justifiably the best of the English in the Guineas; I think he is. Betting wise, I’m talking one bet in the opener.

It looks like this race revolves around Music Society with Ryan Moore taking the ride. This colt has form figures of 2-1-2 & has finished ahead of top all weather horse, Corinthia Knight. I can’t be sure whether he’ll be fully tuned for this & there are question marks over whether this straight track back on turf, especially with the undulations, will play to his strength.

With plenty of pace on, the one I fancy is O’Meara’s Consequences, a strong travelling sort that is a course & distance winner. He has a big reputation & I think he’ll begin to fulfil that this year. He was thought good enough to run at Royal Ascot where he ran creditably behind Sioux Nation. His only bad run was on unsuitably deep ground in France in a Listed event.
His early season form last year was promising but he is best judged on his 3.5 lengths win in a course & distance conditions event at this track. He travelled really well that day & has been noted on more than 1 occasion as quickening up well. There should also be a good pace on, with at least 3 that like to force the issue.
His trainer has plenty of fancied runners at Ripon so it is interesting that stable jockey comes down here for just the 1 ride. Add to that, he then travels from Newmarket all the way to Newcastle for a couple of rides in the evening only adds weight to this horse’s chances. 6/1 looks a big price & I fancy he’ll go off a few points shorter.
