We have reached the final day of the Open de France and on Sunday one of the most historic and lucrative titles on the European Tour will be won by someone and with the quality on show on the leaderboard the big prize is going to go to a worthy winner.
A number of players will be looking to land the third Rolex Series event of the campaign and boost their confidence ahead of the big tournaments on the horizon over the remainder of July.
Round 3 Recap
It was a very low scoring moving day in Paris with a number of players shooting good rounds of golf to get themselves into position to challenge for the tournament on Sunday but at the end of the day it is Marcus Kinhult who preserved his two shot lead. He now leads on 10 under par, two ahead of Chris Wood who in turn is a shot better off than Sergio Garcia. Jon Rahm is on six under par and they are the only men within six shots of the leader.
Unfortunately Chris Wood bogeyed the final hole of his third round to mean that he tied with Kinhult in their two ball to give us a loser from the jaws of victory so it wasn’t the best of days for us betting wise. We’ve one more day to put that right though.
Sunday Betting
We have the outright market to go at on Sunday which I must admit I’m tempted to get involved in with the best I’m looking likely to get from my pre-tournament bets is a place from Matthew Fitzpatrick. I would probably back Chris Wood at 4/1 but he isn’t quite far enough ahead of Garcia and Rahm for comfort and there is no each way value on anyone else as they are too far back so with that in mind I’ll leave it, hope that Fitzpatrick can land a place and have a couple of two ball bets to keep me further occupied on Sunday.

Sunday 2 Balls
The last group out on Sunday is the same as the final group on Saturday when Kinhult and Wood are paired together. They go off at 12.55 BST but the group out before them is probably the pick of the final day groups as Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia are on the golf course together. Alex Noren and Adrian Otaegui is a good pairing half an hour or so before the leaders go out but there is one other that catches my eye as well as the main pair.
Russell Knox vs Dylan Frittelli
Match tees off at 11.20 BST
Two men who begin the final round on level par go out alongside each other when Russell Knox and Dylan Frittelli head out onto the golf course looking to maximise their return on what has been a solid week for both so far.
There is no doubt in my mind that the South African has played the better golf this week though. But for two horror holes he would be close to the lead having had a triple bogey on the final hole on Friday and then a nasty nine on the 13th on Saturday. Were they pars he would be in the final group and just two back. Knox has been solid enough this week without being spectacular and there isn’t a single main statistic he covers Frittelli in so I’m going to have faith in the South African keeping the big numbers of the card on Sunday and if he does that he should have too much for Knox.
Sergio Garcia vs Jon Rahm
Match tees off at 12.45 BST
The penultimate group out onto the course is the all-Spanish pairing of Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm and this may not be the final time we see these two on this course together this year as they could easily partner each other in the Ryder Cup in September.
Garcia finally came to the party on Saturday after a couple of frustrating days but nobody has had fewer putts than him this week so with the short stick working he is in good order here because we know his long game is tip top. Rahm has played so much better than I anticipated but he has been to the thick stuff on a few occasions and been lucky with his lies and I’m not sure that is a long-term strategy around here. Given that Garcia’s putter is working I’m expecting him to be a very tough nut to crack and he’s my bet in this pairing.
