2018 World Series of Darts Finals – Quarter Finals Betting Preview

It is pay day at the World Series of Darts Finals on Sunday when the quarter finals, semi-finals and the final are played out in a frantic day of darts out in Vienna as the global tour ends in what should be a great day of action.

There were plenty of shocks as predicted on Saturday evening which has left an open feel to the tournament although the world number one’s shadow is heavily surrounding it heading into the quarter finals. As ever we can preview the afternoon session but time restrictions stop us covering the evening one.

Simon Whitlock vs Gerwyn Price

He opening quarter final sees the European Championship finalist Simon Whitlock taking on Gerwyn Price who is also in the last eight for the second Sunday in succession. Both men will see the opportunity ahead of them which should make for a good match.

Price capitalised on Peter Wright being truly awful on Saturday evening to make it through to this stage while Whitlock might still be wondering how he remains in the tournament after surviving multiple match darts from Daryl Gurney in the second round. I’m expecting a tough match here and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a lot of mileage in it but neither played great on Saturday so a significant improvement from one could see them run out a cosy winner. I’ll leave this one alone.

Michael Smith vs Dave Chisnall

The St Helens derby comes up second on the day when Michael Smith faces Dave Chisnall for a place in the semi-final of the tournament. Chisnall is yet to make it into the Grand Slam next week so this could be a huge day for him but Smith won’t lie down without a fight.

If both these men are on it this could easily be the best match of the day given their scoring power and the natural rhythm that they throw with. Smith desperately wants a TV title while Chisnall is two wins away from getting in next week so I’m expecting a lengthy battle here. If we get that then we should get a stack of 180s which makes me think over 10.5 can land. They played to a similar format in the World Matchplay earlier in the year. Chisnall won 11-8 and there were 18 180s. A similar scoreline should yield the 11 we need for the over.

James Wade vs Jamie Lewis

The low key quarter final is the third one of the afternoon when the new European champion James Wade takes on the World Championship semi-finalist Jamie Lewis for a place in another TV semi-final for both men.

Wade looks in a real groove at the minute and he should come through this but we saw in the World Championship that writing Lewis off on the big stage is not a shrewd move. He was terrible against Cross on Saturday night but still hit five 180s and came through quite nicely in the end. He was brilliant on Friday night though. Over this distance I still expect Wade to win but I do expect Lewis to cover 4.5 180s along the way.

Raymond Barneveld vs Michael van Gerwen

The pick of the matches on Sunday afternoon is undoubtedly the last one as the greatest Dutch players ever to have lived meet once again when Raymond Barneveld takes on the world number one Michael van Gerwen.

Clashes between these two in the past have usually been extremely good. Whether this tournament has the profile and the appeal to bring out another remains to be seen but both men love winning TV titles which should ensure they give this their all and scrap it right out. I always think Barneveld has a chance whenever he plays MVG but at the same time I’m loathe to oppose the Green Machine a week after he loses. I’ll sit and watch two legends hopefully deliver another great match.
