2019-20 Big Bash League – Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Sixers Tips and Betting Preview

There is another double header in the Big Bash on Wednesday and the action begins in Adelaide where the Adelaide Strikers host the Sydney Sixers in a match between two of the better sides in the competition to date, who meet for the second time in a matter of a few days.

The Sixers have the opportunity to go top of the table for a few hours here while the Strikers can get themselves right back into the race for top spot and pull out of the logjam that is forming behind them in the current standings.

Adelaide Strikers

It was a really good start to the campaign for the Adelaide Strikers, but they have now lost their last two matches and they will want to snap out of that run as quickly as possible. They have a couple of home matches coming up including this one which they will want to take advantage of, and if they do that, there is every chance they will be fighting out the battle for top spot in the final stages of the regular season.

The bowling for the Strikers have just started to come off its top form and that will be a concern for Jason Gillespie and his coaching staff. They have the bowlers to get the job done though so they just need to take a step back and make sure they deliver the goods. If they are able to do that then they have the batting depth to win matches and propel themselves right back into contention to win this tournament again.

Sydney Sixers

After only winning one of their first two matches and looking shaky with the bat in doing it, the Sydney Sixers have now won their last four battles, including the win over this opposition last weekend, and so they will be heading south in decent form. They have done it without some big players for various reasons as well which will be a huge confidence boost for the remainder of the campaign for the men in magenta.

The Sixers batting came to the party in the previous match and that is an ominous sign for the rest of the teams in this competition, because traditionally that is not their strongest suit. If that continues to fire then they will put themselves very deep into contention to make another final and push for the title. The one thing they need to be a little careful of is that they don’t now rely on one facet of the game over the other. Consistent performances are the key.

Team News

The Adelaide Strikers have made two alterations to their squad with Liam O’Connor and Cameron White easing out to make way for Wes Agar and Harry Nielsen. It might well be that Agar comes into the side for his death bowling.

The Sydney Sixers were hoping to have Nathan Lyon back with them for this match but he picked up an injury in the final Test match and won’t be available. Moises Henriques is still in Sydney after the birth of his son so the Sixers are unchanged in their squad.

Betting

The game between these two in Coffs Harbour on Sunday was a high scoring match and I’m expecting plenty more of the same here on an Adelaide Oval wicket which has played fantastically all tournament. What has been noticeable is that apart from the very straight boundary the extremities of the ground have been very accessible so far and with matches coming thick and fast now, you would imagine the pitch will move around the square creating even shorter boundaries.

The boundaries line for this match is 38.5 which sounds high but I’m not convinced it is high enough. There have been 52 and 38 boundaries in the opening two matches on this ground this season and the second of those wasn’t as high scoring as I fancy this one will be. The likes of Jake Weatherald and James Vince missed out in the match between these two so there is even more boundary potential in them. I think this line gets covered.
