2019-20 Big Bash League – Hobart Hurricanes vs Brisbane Heat Tips and Betting Preview

The Big Bash League is back at Blundstone Arena on Friday when the Hobart Hurricanes host the Brisbane Heat in a battle of two teams who are in the lower half of the table as we begin to head towards the halfway mark in the regular season.

There are four sides who have opened up a gap on the rest this season so these two sides will be eager to win this match and avoid getting into a battle for the final playoff spot throughout the second half of the campaign.

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes have won two and lost two of their opening four matches, although they might feel a little aggrieved their record is how it is because they were on the wrong end of a rained out match against the Melbourne Stars last time out. On the flip side of that, they were lucky to come out on top against the Sydney Sixers earlier in the competition so it could be argued that their ledger is about right.

The Hurricanes have bowled very well in this tournament thus far and have three bowlers in the top 15 wicket takers in the tournament even though they have played a game less than most other sides. The problem has come in the form of scoring runs and that is very much something of a concern moving forward, especially as they are due to lose key man D’Arcy Short in a week or so when Australia require him for international duty.

Brisbane Heat

In truth, you don’t really know what you are going to get when it comes to the Brisbane Heat, and as such they are left with just one win and three defeats from their opening four matches of the season. The big problem is that they only have one way of playing, especially with the bat, and as a result teams are getting wise to what they offer and are going to make them do things they do not want to do.

The Heat need someone to show some brains with the bat. They have enough power in their ranks but you can’t just go out and look to smack it all the time anymore. If they can sort out their batting woes then their bowling has shown that they can get the job done in any conditions, even with one or two key men now being available all the time. The Heat could do with a win here as they are in danger of getting cut adrift of the top five.

Team News

The Hobart Hurricanes have named an unchanged squad for this match and although they lost their last outing, it would still be a surprise if they make any changes to their side as they look settled enough with the ball and don’t have many other options with the bat.

The Brisbane Heat have also named an unchanged squad with Mitch Swepson still missing despite not being included in the Test side. There isn’t enough time for him to get from Sydney to Tasmania for the game. The Heat could bring another spinner into their side.

Betting

The market still likes the Brisbane Heat but I certainly don’t. I never really have if I’m honest and while I acknowledge they can be a dangerous side when they get it right, I’d wager they fail to get it right more often than they succeed. I can’t really say I feel much more about the Hobart Hurricanes either in truth so I’m going to leave the match outcome alone and target one of the side markets which offers up a little more security.

That comes in the total runs where 324.5 just looks too high. Only once in four matches have Brisbane Heat gone past 150 in this tournament and that was against a Sydney Sixers side who offered up a horrendous bowling display defending a small boundary. The Heat come in here off the back of their worst batting performance too. Hobart Hurricanes are yet to make 150 and twice they have been bowled out for less than 130 and were well on their way to making that three out of four times last time out. Both teams are going better with the ball than the bat so I’ll take the under on that runs line.
