The second half of the double header in the Big Bash League on Sunday sees the tournament heading back to Perth where the Perth Scorchers take on the Hobart Hurricanes in a match between two teams who will be looking to break out into fifth place in the table.
These teams have identical records with a couple of wins and three defeats but one of them will level out their ledger here and seize current control of the final playoff spot as we head towards the midway point of the regular season.
Perth Scorchers
The Perth Scorchers go into this match off the back of a big win last time out. They destroyed the Brisbane Heat and although it wasn’t their best performance overall, mainly due to the fact that they didn’t put up the best score with the bat, it was a comprehensive victory, the sort of which they had been looking for and will be looking to replicate a lot more between now and the remainder of the regular season.
By and large the Scorchers haven’t gone too badly with the bat, but their middle and lower order are just showing signs of being out of form and that is a concern. They are good players though who probably just need a decent hit out in the middle to get themselves into good touch. Their bowling is beginning to come into its own, especially with their spin twins working so well in tandem, putting the squeeze on opposition teams.
Hobart Hurricanes
After winning two of their first three matches, one of which came in a kind of fortunate fashion, the Hobart Hurricanes have now dropped their last two games, although they were unlucky in one of them which was heavily affected by the rain. There was nothing unfortunate about their loss to the Brisbane Heat last time out though. They were torn apart in that game and while they battled hard with the bat, they were never getting home.
That was the first time in this tournament that their bowling was really torn apart but they won’t want that to become a trend, even though injuries are starting to hit them quite hard. You get the impression that if the Hurricanes are going to win matches for a while it will be in high scoring shootouts when their classy batsmen come to the party and catch fire on what has been a decent wicket at Blundstone.
Team News
It probably comes as no surprise given the size of their win last time out that the Perth Scorchers have kept the same squad for this match. It would be a huge surprise if there is any change to the starting XI as well.
The Hobart Hurricanes have been forced into one change which sees James Faulkner come out of the squad with injury. Tom Rogers replaces him in it but it is more likely that Scott Boland will be the man to start in place of the all-rounder.
Betting
There are a lot of big hitters on show in this match and on a ground which has tiny boundaries straight I’m expecting the sixes to flow in this one. These two teams are no strangers to playing out high scoring contests and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this turns into another one with the strength of the two batting line ups that we have in front of us for our entertainment here I have to say.
Perth are improving with the ball but Hobart have a high class batting line up and one which can hit many a clean ball whether off pace bowling or spin. We’ve already seen a couple of times that Perth are capable of belting it miles with the bat in their hands and the absence of James Faulkner is only likely to assist with that. I like over 11.5 sixes to land nicely over the course of this match.
