Another round of matches in the Premier League begin on Saturday and with the winter break looming on the horizon the points at stake will be keenly sought after so teams can relax properly during their time off.
As with most Saturdays in the division we have three kick off times to keep us entertained and there are some pretty juicy matches on the schedule too. Seven hours of football should fly past with what is on show!
Early Kick Off
We begin at the King Power Stadium where Leicester City will be looking to bounce back from their agonising loss in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday night, when they host a Chelsea side who will be out to prove their worth against one of the better sides in the division. These two teams are great going forward so this should be an entertaining way to start off the day, even if there isn’t as much on it as there might have been, for the home side at the very least.
3pm Matches
We actually have six matches in the usual kick off slot on Saturday and for once they include the runaway leaders and champions elect Liverpool, who host Southampton in a pretty attractive match given the form of Saints right now. There are two huge matches at the bottom end of the table as well with Bournemouth hosting Carabao Cup finalists Aston Villa while West Ham take on Brighton at the London Stadium in a clash neither team dare lose you would think.
Elsewhere Crystal Palace will look to pick up a rare home win when they go up against a Sheffield United side who broke their club record transfer fee earlier in the week. Norwich City will look to push their way closer to safety when they travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United in a big match for both while Watford will have the intentions of improving their safety chances when they host a hit or miss Everton side at Vicarage Road.
Late Game
Once all that has finished the attention will turn to Old Trafford where Manchester United will look to kick on in the Premier League after their semi-final disappointment in midweek when they host a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who they have already knocked out of the FA Cup this term. Wolves are well rested and out for a bit of revenge though so this is unlikely to be the comfortable evening United would be looking for I suspect. It could be that once again the best has been saved for last.
Betting
Both West Ham United and Brighton and Hove Albion will have targeted their clash at the London Stadium as a match they can win, and in West Ham’s case one they really need to win, and I think that might lead to a few goals as a result. I think everything is looking good for Brighton here. They are a lot better than their results have suggested but they love the ball and could get plenty of it in this match.
Contrast that to West Ham, and not enough of their players want the ball right now. Brighton have quality going forward but they can leave themselves exposed at the back. Given that both have to avoid defeat here, an early goal should bust this right open because you wouldn’t expect either to be able to keep a team chucking the kitchen sink at them out. I like over 2.5 goals in this one given what is on it.
