We have just the five matches on Saturday afternoon as the Premier League weekend continues. Due to the start of the Europa League group stage there is a lot of action on come on Sunday, but we still have the champions on show before then.
The weekend kicked off in entertaining fashion in Southampton on Friday night and it should continue that way on Saturday, where despite the shortage of matches we have the three kick off times.
Early Kick Off
The action begins at the King Power Stadium where probably the match of the day takes place as Leicester City host a Tottenham Hotspur side who can’t seem to hold onto a lead at present. Both teams go into the match off the back of disappointing results last time out – Leicester at Manchester United and Spurs after surrendering a 2-0 advantage to Olympiakos in midweek. Both teams play the right way so we should get started in style.
3pm Matches
There are just the three matches in the usual kick off slot this Saturday so each match will get a fair amount of the spotlight. One of them comes from Turf Moor where Norwich City will look to build on their amazing win over Manchester City last week when they take on Burnley while Everton will look to make up for their disappoint against Bournemouth last weekend when they play host to Sheffield United. The other match is a repeat of the FA Cup final from last season where Watford won’t want the same result when they head up the M6 to face the champions Manchester City, who walloped them 6-0 in that match.
Late Game
The day will conclude up at St James’ Park where a strange pick for a TV match sees Newcastle United taking on Brighton and Hove Albion in a match which I dare say when it was chosen looked like a potential relegation battle six-pointer but given that Brighton have looked alright so far this term it probably isn’t actually the case. Newcastle look in more than a spot of bother though so this is a big match for them it has to be said.
Betting
There isn’t really a lot to go on in this set of matches so after a winner on Friday night I’m largely going to keep my powder dry but there is one bet I like which comes in that FA Cup final repeat where I’m expecting the result to be the same in terms of Manchester City to win and I’m also expecting to see plenty of goals – more than 3.5 of them in this situation.
I understand why people would back City to win and both teams to score but taking City to win and over 3.5 goals offers up an FA Cup type scenario where 4-0 and better would win whereas it loses on the BTTS version. As it goes given what we’ve seen from City defensively last week and the fact that John Stones is out now too, I expect Watford to threaten the City net but the damage that could be done the other way can’t be ignored. I expect a home win and generally their home wins against the lesser sides in the league are full of goals. I don’t see why this would be any different.
