With another set of European matches in midweek, we have quite a busy day in the Premier League on Saturday with the two title protagonists both on show on what could be another telling day in that race even this early in the campaign.
As with the majority of Saturday’s these days we have three kick off times in these matches with the action starting off strongly and continuing from there. There should certainly be a look to enjoy during Match of the Day from this lot.
Early Kick Off
We kick off at Bramall Lane where Sheffield United will look to be the first ones to take something off of Liverpool in the Premier League this season. Liverpool have the chance to go a massive eight points clear of Manchester City who don’t play until later in the day and even this early in the campaign that feels like a significant advantage. Sheffield United are not going to roll over and let it happen though so this looks a good way to open up the day.
3pm Matches
Aston Villa had a good win in the Carabao Cup in midweek and they will look to take the positivity from that into their Premier League campaign where they take on Burnley at Villa Park on Saturday. There should be an entertaining match at the Vitality Stadium where Bournemouth welcome West Ham United while Chelsea will be looking for more of the same from their win in midweek when they welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to Stamford Bridge.
Crystal Palace have made a better start to the campaign than many would have expected them to do and they’ll be out to do some damage when they host Norwich City at Selhurst Park while all eyes will be on Mauricio Pochettino and his Tottenham Hotspur side when they entertain his former club Southampton. The other match in this slot is a repeat of the FA Cup semi-final from last season as Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Watford.
Late Game
We may well save the best for last on Saturday as the champions Manchester City will look to build on that annihilation of Watford last weekend when they make the tricky trip to Merseyside to take on Everton. The Toffees might be flattering to deceive at the minute but Goodison Park is never an easy place to go so there is plenty of intrigue in this final match of the day, especially if Liverpool have piled the pressure on City from earlier in the day.
Betting
I’ll go with a main bet and a speculative one over the course of Saturday afternoon. The main bet comes from Stamford Bridge where I think Chelsea and Brighton can deliver a high scoring game. We’ve seen already this season how much more expansive the Seagulls are playing under Graham Potter but you’ve got to think that could just play into the hands of Chelsea, who are not exactly watertight themselves at the back. This is no longer a Brighton side that struggle for goals and chances on the road. They open sides up seemingly at will and as such I fancy the quality on show here can combine for more than 2.75 goals.
Manchester City should beat Everton but there isn’t a team in the country that Everton are 10/1 to beat on their own patch even allowing for how good City are. While they are amazing going forward, Norwich showed up their deficiencies at the back and set-piece defending has been a concern for Pep’s men for a while. Everton have the likes of Yerry Mina and Michael Keane who will be all over that weakness. The Toffees also have plenty of pace in their side so we could see plenty of Nicolas Otamendi on his backside again. I hope City win but every team has its price. 10/1 is Everton’s.
