Another Premier League weekend begins on Saturday and with the leaders going through a bit of a blip and the race for the top four and to avoid the drop really intensifying right now, it promises to be a great day of action.
As always we have three kick off times in the seven match card so there is a lot to enjoy on a day where the leaders are in action as well as some other big sides. Two games are live on TV in the UK and there are loads of ways to keep up with the others.
Early Kick Off
The action actually begins at Anfield where Liverpool will look to resume their march towards the title when they go up against a Bournemouth team for whom the need for points is becoming more and more desperate now that they have dropped into the bottom three. A win will ease their relegation concerns but their away record does not offer much encouragement that they will come away with the three points. Liverpool laboured past West Ham recently and lost to Watford so they have shown vulnerabilities.
3pm Matches
We have five matches in the usual 3pm slot with events around the top four and the bottom part of the table in play in most of them. That is the case at the Emirates Stadium where West Ham United are the visitors to take on Arsenal and the same applies at Bramall Lane as Sheffield United go up against Norwich City. The third such clash comes from Molineux where form horses Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Brighton and Hove Albion.
The bottom of the table remains in the spotlight in the other two matches in the afternoon. One of those comes at Selhurst Park where Crystal Palace host Watford who will be looking to back up their victory over Liverpool last week while in the other match Southampton welcome FA Cup quarter finalists Newcastle United to St Mary’s, with both sides under pressure to get a result for different reasons.
Late Game
The last offering of what could be a compelling day of action comes from Turf Moor where Burnley welcome Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham Hotspur side for a clash I doubt the Londoners are looking forward to. All eyes will be on the Spurs team sheet here with their Champions League clash to come in midweek while Burnley would love to knock off a side who routed them in the reverse meeting earlier in the campaign.
Betting
I’ll take two here which would be three had Newcastle not had FA Cup action in midweek. The first of them comes at the Emirates Stadium where surely goals have to be the order of the day. If West Ham United can score two at Anfield surely they will have a go at this Arsenal defence and have every chance of finding the net. It is hard to see them keeping a clean sheet though and I’m not convinced either side will want a draw so goal chances should come at will throughout the match. You don’t usually get goal lines at 3 in Arsenal matches these days because of their likelihood to concede. I’m happy to get involved in the overs here.
The other bet I’ll take is Norwich City to avoid defeat at Sheffield United. The Blades have been wonderful this season but at no stage are they 8/13 shots or thereabouts to win a Premier League match. Norwich City might be bottom of the table but we’ve seen in the last eight days that it is largely a false position. Sheffield United just look too short to me. Last season Norwich finished above Sheffield United and I don’t think the Blades have turned things around that dramatically regardless of what the league table says. Chris Wilder’s men have been excellent this season but they hit the magical 40 point mark last week and subconsciously that might have an effect. They have only won six of 14 at home. Watford and Brighton have left with a point and West Ham were one of those dodgy VAR calls away from doing the same. The home price is wrong so the value lies on the visitors.
