2019-20 Premier League – Sunday 19th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The two key races in the Premier League are back in the spotlight on Sunday afternoon as the picture at the bottom of the table and in the battle for the top four could get a little clearer in the two matches which take place over the day.

The initial focus will be on the battle to avoid the drop before that intriguing tussle to get into the Champions League next season takes centre stage. As with all the Premier League games since the restart both are live on TV so there really is no need to miss a single minute.

Bournemouth vs Southampton (14.00 – BT Sport 1)

The first match of the afternoon is a massive one for Bournemouth in their bid to avoid the drop as they host local rivals Southampton knowing that a two goal win will move them out of the relegation zone. Southampton are safe but will want to finish the season well.

You have to give credit to Bournemouth. A week or so ago they looked dead and buried but they found a result when they really needed it against Leicester last weekend and were certainly not disgraced by Manchester City in midweek. They will need to be at their best here because Southampton have suddenly turned into an excellent side to watch, and their results are starting to get a consistency to them.

I think Southampton are overpriced here. The easy argument against that is that they are not playing for anything but they weren’t playing for anything at Old Trafford last week and still busted a gut late on to pull themselves back level deep into injury time. I don’t see the Saints easing up here and while Bournemouth have shown signs of life recently, they are where they are for a reason. One of those is the huge number of defensive injuries that they have. It took a special United attack to become only the second side in eight to score more than once against Southampton. Saints’ best efforts tend to come on the road so I’ll take them draw no bet here.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City (16.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The second half of the Sunday action sees the battle for the European places forming the centre of attention when last year’s Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur host a side looking to be in that competition next season in Leicester City.

Spurs have been incredibly hit and miss since lockdown. I wouldn’t say we’ve seen them look fantastic at any time but we’ve certainly seen them play terrible on a few occasions. The same can be said of Leicester too but both teams go into this one with positive results which will encourage them. Tottenham need to win this match to push for the Europa League while Leicester are trying to fend off a surging Manchester United side. You would think that will make this extremely hard fought and competitive but I wouldn’t like to pick a winner. I’ll sit this one out although given there has been a 5-4 and a 6-1 in the last six meetings between these two, those who do want a bet could do worse than look at the goal markets.
