2019-20 Premier League – Sunday 1st September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The last day of Premier League action prior to the international break takes place on Sunday when the last two games of the latest round of fixtures are played out. We have two close looking matches on the card on what should be a competitive afternoon.

We have one of the bigger matches of the season in terms of the North London vicinity while two sides who will be looking to be in Europe next term get the action underway in a potentially technical encounter.

Everton vs Wolves (14.00)

The opening match of the afternoon sees two sides who came through tricky cup ties in the week meeting at Goodison Park where Everton will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in a battle of the teams many believe have the best chance of breaking into the top six this term.

It looked as though Everton were going along nicely this season and then came that very disappointing defeat to Aston Villa last week and now doubts are beginning to set in on whether they have actually improved much despite the cash they have spent. Those questions don’t apply to Wolves but one which does is how much they will have in the tank for this game after their Europa League exploits. They looked pretty flat for large spells against Burnley last week which is a concern. There are enough question marks on the two sides here to merit leaving this one well alone.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur (16.30)

The bigger of the two matches, certainly as far as London is concerned, is the match between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, the first North London derby of the campaign, and a big one for both sides after disappointing results last week.

I’m a little concerned about Tottenham Hotspur even this early in the season I have to admit. In all three matches they have looked a little ordinary and at times against Newcastle last week they were clueless. The positive is that they won’t be facing a packed out defence here which should give them something to work with but I’m not sure I could be backing them to win.

I’m tempted by Arsenal here but I can’t hide the fact that their defence scares the life out of me so while I fancy them to win courtesy of having fewer issues than their opponents here, I suspect the better bet is over three goals, something both these attacking units can cover if they get going but who between them should have no troubles delivering the goods.
