It has been a weekend that has been dominated by VAR controversy in the Premier League so far, and it continues with three more matches in the division on Sunday when events at the bottom of the table are back in the spotlight once again.
Two of the three matches are live on our screens in the UK while the other one has been slotted in here because of the Europa League commitments last week. We’ll begin the preview with the two TV games.
Man Utd vs Watford (14.00)
The opening match in front of the cameras comes from Old Trafford where Manchester United will be looking to back up their fine win over Chelsea last week, when they entertain a Watford side who looked to be pulling away from danger, but who have suddenly hit the buffers once again.
That was United’s first win in four matches and they have had a tough Europa League match since then. Watford head to Old Trafford without a win in four games so predicting which way this one will go is not easy. Logic would suggest the home side are the likely winners but they’ve not scored in their last two in front of their own fans and rarely do they look convincing against sides who let them have the ball. Nothing Watford have done lately has convinced me either so I’m sitting this one out.
Arsenal vs Everton (16.30)
Two sides carrying decent form with them meet in the second of the two live games on Sunday afternoon when Arsenal host Everton at the Emirates Stadium with a spot in the top eight in the table the reward for the winner.
Arsenal have just one loss in their last nine matches, although their fans will be all too quick to point out that they have drawn more than they would like. Everton have only lost one of their last 11 matches, which was away to Manchester City, which is no massive negative it has to be said. The Toffees have five wins in their last eight matches and look like they are really getting it right under Carlo Ancelotti.
Arsenal have had a pretty long trip to deal with in the Europa League over the last few days but I expect them to have a go here back on home soil. Arsenal play into the hands of Everton in a lot of ways with Everton having a lot of pace and movement in attacking areas and enough quality to get their key players the ball. That makes me think goals will come naturally in this match and the 8/11 on over 2.5 of them should be taken.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Norwich City (14.00)
The one match away from the cameras comes from Molineux where there should be a decent atmosphere after Wolverhampton Wanderers thumped Espanyol in the Europa League on Thursday evening. They now host bottom side Norwich City in what should be an entertaining contest.
The Canaries have no choice but to have a go here. To be fair to them, they have had a go in the majority of their matches, but sitting seven points from safety with just 12 matches left, their outlook is pretty simple. They need wins urgently. That might play into the hands of Wolves, who love sides coming at them so that they can hit them on the counterattack. I like the idea of goals here but Norwich just don’t convert enough chances on the road to convince me to bet. Norwich have scored six goals in 13 road trips this season. Wolves don’t always convince against the lesser sides so sitting this out is probably the best option.
