Preview

Whether it is the battle for Champions League or European football, or the bid to stay in the Premier League, all four matches have something at stake. The early kick offs have both. Aston Villa begin the night four points adrift of safety so they really need to get something out of their trip to Everton, a side who look to be on the beach it must be said. The big clash of the early games comes at the King Power Stadium however. Leicester City appear sitting ducks in the bid for the top four but a win over Sheffield United will keep a surging Manchester United side at bay for a little longer. Sheffield United will move back into the European spots if they can win the game though.

The aforementioned Manchester United headline the second set of kick offs on Thursday night when they make the trip to the capital to take on a Crystal Palace team who are another who look like they have packed in for the season. The final match of the four comes from St Mary’s where Southampton will look to continue their good recent form when they entertain a Brighton and Hove Albion side who can all but secure their survival for sure with a win.

Betting

The away sides are all likely to be popular on Thursday evening but although Everton look to have downed tools for the season, Everton have still only lost three times at Goodison Park and are still picking up results at home while Leicester City are surely going to come good at some point and even then Sheffield United have only won four away games all season. Brighton are more of an attraction given that they are unbeaten since lockdown on their travels and Southampton only played on Monday night but they might see a point as a good result.

That leaves us with Manchester United and they are the team I’m happy to back here. The Red Devils are on absolute fire and I expect them to come away from Selhurst Park with a comprehensive win over Crystal Palace. I’ll get the negative of them only playing on Monday night out of the way first but United have a big squad and can handle that. Most of their attacking stars are young so they’ll be fine I’m sure. Crystal Palace are in a bit of a hole. They beat a terrible Bournemouth side in their first match after lockdown but they’ve lost their five games since then and are lacking a goal threat – they’ve only scored in one of those five matches – against an ordinary Chelsea defence. Palace have only scored 14 goals all season at home so the United defence isn’t likely to be under siege here. Gary Cahill looks like missing this match which opens up Palace defensively and I expect United to take advantage with a relatively routine win.
