We continue to head towards the final day of the Premier League season with two more matches from the competition on Tuesday evening, on what looks like it could be a huge night in the battle to avoid the drop.
The two teams either side of the relegation line are in action on Tuesday evening against sides who are enjoying the pressure free sanctuary of the top half of the table. We could see the relegation picture clearing here or it could just muddy the waters ahead of the final day.
Watford vs Man City (18.00 – Sky Main Event, Sky Premier League, Sky One & Pick)
The opening match of the night is a repeat of the FA Cup final from last season which Watford will want to forget when they go up against a Manchester City side who will be looking to bounce back from their cup exit against Arsenal at the weekend.
Things have gotten very serious for Watford after their disastrous defeat to West Ham United on Friday night, to the extent that they have parted company with Nigel Pearson at a very strange time. Man City never like losing so you’ve got to think that they will be out to put their loss against Arsenal right here, and they could have the ideal opponents to do it against having put 14 goals past the Hornets in their last two meetings.
This one is all about City in my eyes. If they want to go mad and win big they could do but they haven’t really been brilliant on their travels for a while, although the 5-0 win over Brighton is a warning sign for Watford here. I wonder if Watford will look to preserve their goal difference here as that could yet be the deciding factor in relegation. Under a new manager it is hard to tell. My gut feeling is City will run riot but all the betting markets reflect that so I’ll leave this one alone.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal (20.15 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
The second match of the night is going to carry real significance regardless of the result of the first game. Aston Villa know they have to match whatever result Watford get when they host Arsenal but if they better it they will boost their survival chances.
There is a chance that Aston Villa could come out of the relegation zone with a win here, and with the much easier game of the three in danger on the final day of the season, they would then fancy their chances of preserving their Premier League status. If that is to happen they are going to have to find some goals from somewhere as they have only scored five times in their last 10 Premier League outings. Two of those were against a Crystal Palace side who have been on the beach for a month or so.
That is a real concern against an Arsenal side who have never been short of goals and who are beginning to find their groove defensively as well. They have shown in their last two matches with wins over Liverpool and Man City just what they can do and as long as they remain focused on their last two matches rather than the upcoming cup final you would think they will finish the season strongly. I just don’t see Villa scoring enough goals to keep this Arsenal team at bay and you would think if Arsenal do focus on the cup final that will come on Sunday rather than here. I think odds against on an away win looks good to me.
