In terms of history and prestige the match of the night comes from the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal host the new champions Liverpool in a clash of the ages. This one doesn’t have a lot riding on it other than Arsenal are chasing a Europa League spot. The other matches all offer much more interest. Manchester City now know they will be playing Champions League football next season but for their opponents Bournemouth, it is all about trying to stay in the Premier League and they could really do with points at the Etihad Stadium to help them with that quest.
The chase for Europe is the centre of attention in the other two matches. Wolves were dealt a blow in their hopes of making it into the Champions League when Manchester City saw their ban overturned but they can keep their hopes alive if they can win at Burnley, who themselves haven’t given up on a Europa League place. Tottenham Hotspur are fighting hard to make it into Europe next term and they can help their quest if they pick up points at Newcastle United.
Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of these matches with the first of them coming at Turf Moor where Burnley are being disrespected a bit at the prices. I’m tempted to back them to win the match at 4/1, this is a side whose only defeat in their last 13 matches either side of lockdown came at Manchester City on a night where they could barely field a team. Since then they have picked up three wins and two draws, the latest of which came at Anfield on Saturday. Wolves ended a mini-slump at the weekend when they took care of Everton but the Toffees were dreadful in that match. This one has a strong draw feel about it to me but I’m never one to write off Burnley. I think the Burnley-draw double chance or +0.5 Asian line is the way to go.
I’ll take over 3.5 goals in the Man City vs Bournemouth match as well. This bet didn’t go great for me on Tuesday but Bournemouth are missing their best defender in Nathan Ake and are likely to be opened up at will by whichever side Pep puts on the park here. Bournemouth found their mojo against Leicester City though and surely their only chance of getting anything from this match is to have a bit of a go. All four Premier League meetings between these two at the Etihad have had four or more goals in them and I expect this one to follow suit. I’ll take the over here.
