There is one match left in what has been an extremely dramatic set of Championship fixtures already this weekend and it sees the leaders West Bromwich Albion in action as they make the journey to the capital to take on Millwall at The New Den.
West Brom have already seen Leeds beaten this weekend so they will know they have the chance to move four points clear at the summit with a victory here. Millwall can move up a couple of places and latch onto the playoff spots with a win here.
Millwall
You don’t need to have watched Millwall to know what you are going to get from them but when you turn up at The New Den is soon becomes apparent. The pitch isn’t great and they have a big physical striker so if the Baggies aren’t expecting a direct encounter here they are doing it all wrong. That isn’t to say Millwall have no quality, they do, but their big threat is getting the ball into the box and they do it well.
The Lions form has just tailed off a little bit in recent weeks. They have only won one of their last four although the three matches they’ve not won in that run were all on the road, although they are probably still wondering how they didn’t beat Leeds from 2-0 up. Millwall have won their last three at The Den so they are building up a head of steam under the astute and organised Gary Rowett so they are no forlorn hope here.
West Brom
The league leaders have looked anything but table toppers in recent times and I was at The Hawthorns last week and you could feel the nervous energy around the place in the stands. It might be that they are better suited to playing on the road at the minute, but nevertheless that win over Luton last week was their first in eight in the league, which is not the form they would have been wanting to show.
One thing about West Brom is they are not short of attacking options and the additions in the transfer window of Kamil Grosicki and Callum Robinson look good pieces of business. You would expect the Baggies to trouble the Millwall back line but whether they are good enough to repel set pieces and balls into their box remains to be seen. It will also be interesting to see if the Leeds result has freed them up or piled the pressure onto them.
Team News
Millwall could give a debut to their transfer deadline day signing Mason Bennett, who played under Rowett at Derby. Ryan Leonard could also return from injury for the Lions too. He has been out since September.
West Bromwich Albion will welcome Matheus Pereira back from his three-match suspension but Grady Diangana is injured. Kamil Grosicki and Lee Peltier could make their debuts but Nathan Ferguson is out.
Betting
I think this is a classic both teams to score match. I can’t deny that the weather forecast isn’t a bit of a hindrance but these two play to their strengths which happen to be the weakness of the opposition. West Brom are ordinary defending set pieces and balls into their box while West Brom’s guile and creativity in key areas should be too much for the Millwall back line That should see both sides happy in their roles here.
Both teams to score in this match is just under even money and given that these two have played each other twice this season and that has clicked on both occasions so it would be folly not to back the hat trick to be completed. The attacking strengths of these two sides should lead to goals so with the price and plenty going for it I’m on both teams to score.
