The final set of Championship fixtures of the decade get underway on Sunday when 11 of the 12 matches take place on another frantic and frenetic day of action in the second tier, with valuable points once again up for grabs.
As with all matches in this division that do not take place on a Saturday at 3pm, all 11 matches will be able to be watched on the red button on Sky, so there is a perfect way of keeping up with any bets we have to round off the year.
Sunday’s fixtures are as follows:
Birmingham City v Leeds United
Bristol City v Luton Town
Fulham v Stoke City
Huddersfield Town v Blackburn Rovers
Millwall v Brentford
Nottingham Forest v Wigan Athletic
Preston North End v Reading
Queens Park Rangers v Hull City
Sheffield Wednesday v Cardiff City
Swansea City v Barnsley
West Bromwich Albion v Middlesbrough
Big Matches
The leaders West Bromwich Albion are in action on Sunday afternoon when they play host to a Middlesbrough side who are beginning to find some form and who will want to be tricky opponents. Leeds United will look to take advantage of any slip up that might take place at The Hawthorns, but they face a tricky little test away to Birmingham City at St Andrews. Brentford have moved their way up to third in the table and they head across London to take on Millwall on Sunday afternoon.
Best of the Rest
There is a key match at both ends of the table when Fulham host Stoke City in a clash between two sides with the bigger budgets in the division. Sheffield Wednesday slipped down to fourth on Boxing Day and they look to bounce back when they host Cardiff City on Sunday while Preston in sixth host a form side in Reading. Luton Town look to come out of the bottom three when they head to Ashton Gate to take on a Bristol City side who have lost their last four matches while Barnsley head to Swansea City. Wigan Athletic are the other team in the bottom three and they make the trip to Nottingham Forest.
Betting
I’m going for goals on Sunday and not surprisingly one place I expect them to come is at Ashton Gate where free conceding but consistent scoring Luton Town head to a Bristol City side who will surely have to have a go in this match to arrest their slump in form. If they don’t give this one a good go in front of their own fans there is going to be uproar in the home areas and to be fair Luton are the sort of side you can get at. Luton have already beaten Bristol City this season though, scoring three goals on that occasion, and go to Gloucestershire off the back of a confidence inducing performance against Fulham on Boxing Day. I’m expecting to see three or more goals here.
I’m also expecting to see goals come pretty freely at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium where everyone knows how the goal likelihood in QPR matches. They come pretty regularly in Hull City matches as well so there is no reason to suggest we will be disappointed when they meet on Sunday. To be fair to QPR they’ve just gone goalless but on another night they could have had three or four at Reading on Thursday. Both these sides score plenty. They concede plenty too and so we should be treated to more than three of them here.
