2019-20 Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 21st January Matches Tips and Betting Preview

We are at the stage of the Championship season where matches are being rearranged due to FA Cup commitments and two of those take place in the division on Tuesday night with the bottom of the table in the spotlight.

Usually midweek matches in the Championship are available on the red button on Sky but because these two are rearranged games I’m not sure that is the case here, so it will be the social feeds and club streaming to keep up to date on the matches with.

Barnsley vs Preston North End

One match which has both ends of the table in its spotlight comes from Oaklwell where Barnsley host Preston North End. Barnsley saw Stoke move four points ahead of them on Monday night so they need to follow up here while Preston sit down in ninth but they will go into the playoffs with a win.

Preston ended a spell of six matches without a win in all competitions on Saturday when they beat Charlton but there wasn’t a whole lot that was emphatic or convincing about it which makes me think they are vulnerable here, especially given that they haven’t won any of their last six on the road since they pipped the aforementioned Charlton back in November. That was one of just two successes they have had on the road this term.

Barnsley have lost two of their last three but they have been away from home. At Oakwell in recent times they have looked a lot more solid at home, winning three and drawing two of their last five outings there including holding West Brom and beating Hull and QPR. Preston’s away woes have gone on for too long to be a fluke so I’m happy to be on the improving Barnsley on the draw no bet line.

Middlesbrough vs Birmingham City

The other match on Tuesday night sees two sides who should be clear enough from danger to be able to look up and not down taking each other on when Middlesbrough host Birmingham City up at the Riverside.

I don’t rate Birmingham at all but they have got a couple of results recently to ease themselves away from any immediate danger pending points deductions and things like that. Middlesbrough took an absolute age to get it going this season but they look to have it all sorted out now and are heading in the right direction. I expect them to win this but I got burned on them in a similar situation in their previous home match against Derby at the same price and I’m not keen on a repeat of that so I’ll let them win if they’re good enough.
