It is a big week of Championship football as we have a midweek round of games as well as the two weekend sets, and they begin on Tuesday evening when half of the second tier are in action, on what could be an important night for many.
This division always brings up great action and competitive affairs and the beauty of the midweek fixture list is that Sky subscribers can access all the games either on the main channel or on the red button.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated)
Cardiff City v Stoke City
Fulham v Derby County
Huddersfield Town v Swansea City
Luton Town v Charlton Athletic
Millwall v Wigan Athletic
Reading v Leeds United (8pm)
Preview
The TV offering in terms of the main channel on Sky on Tuesday evening comes from the Madejski Stadium where Leeds United will look to return to the top of the table when they play host to a Reading side who have been in decent form since changing their manager. Two other sides in the top six are in action over the course of the night. Fulham host Derby County at Craven Cottage while Swansea City head up north to take on a Huddersfield Town side who have improved since the Cowley’s went in.
There are three other matches on the card with two of the promoted sides from last season meeting when Luton Town look to end a bad run of five straight losses when they go up against an injury ravaged Charlton Athletic side at Kenilworth Road. Elsewhere Cardiff City play their first home match under the leadership of Neil Harris when they host Stoke City. Millwall host Wigan Athletic in the other game on the evening.
Betting
I like two bets over the course of the night here. The first one comes in the match I will be going to as Luton Town face Charlton Athletic. Goals were the order of the day in both matches between the two last season and I expect to see a few more here. Both meetings last term had four goals in them and I wouldn’t be surprised to see more of the same here. Luton were only a shocking call from the linesman from being 2-1 up on Leeds with 20 to play at the weekend and even though they lost will have taken a lot of belief from that. Charlton score goals but they concede plenty too. With Charlton’s injuries I hope Luton win the game but I’m slightly respective of the Addicks’ strong record against the Hatters. I’ll play the over instead.
Speaking of Leeds United, I expect them to see off Reading in fine style in front of the live cameras. When you think Saturday was the first game back for Pablo Hernandez he is only going to improve for the run and the Whites should do accordingly as well. Kalvin Phillips was nullified for Leeds on Saturday but I didn’t see anything in the Reading side a couple of weeks ago to do that so Leeds should control this game. They don’t give a lot away and if Liam Cooper returns alongside Ben White, who is the best defender I’ve seen in this division this season, it is hard to see where Reading break through. As long as Patrick Bamford doesn’t have one of his useless days I don’t see Bielsa’s boys not winning this.
