2019 ATP World Tour Finals Tennis – Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

The second set of group matches at the ATP World Tour Finals makes up the schedule inside the o2 Arena on Wednesday with a card oozing with class and quality on show for us over what should be another outstanding day of tennis.

Dominic Thiem blew the event wide open on Tuesday night and on Wednesday we see what Rafael Nadal and three of the best up and coming players have to offer either side of some compelling doubles action.

Afternoon Session

Juan Sebastian Cabal & Robbie Farah vs Horia Tecau & Jean-Julien Rojer

As with Tuesday, it is the losers from the first set of games on court first so the number one seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robbie Farah will be fighting for their competitive existence in the tournament when they take on the lively Horia Tecau and Jean-Julien Rojer.

Cabal and Farah were taken apart by the French pairing of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in the first game while Tecau and Rojer were edged by the German pair Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies in their opener so based on that you would think that the Romanian-Dutch pair would have every chance but you have to be a brave man to take on the Colombians based on how they’ve played this year and I’m not so I’ll leave this alone.

Rafael Nadal vs Daniil Medvedev

The opening singles match of the day is a repeat of the US Open final between Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev. The concluding match in New York was an absolute epic and if this meeting is anything like that one we will be royally entertained.

Both men lost their opening match and have question marks hanging over them going into this one. Is Nadal truly fit and if so can he perform better than he did against Alexander Zverev in his opening match meanwhile has Medvedev’s fine run caught up with him physically? All will be revealed over the course of the afternoon and while I fancy over 22.5 games will land those doubts make me think this is better left alone.

Evening Session

Kevin Krawietz & Andreas Mies vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut

Potentially the best doubles match of the week so far on paper opens up the evening session when the German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies take on Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Nahut who looked devastating in the first match.

To be fair to the Germans, the longer their opener went on the better they looked and this one is a nice clash in styles. I say that because the German pair did a lot of good work from the back of the court and on their return game while the French duo look to bring the power and get up to the net and dominate. I think Herbert and Mahut are rightful favourites but they might be just a little short but I don’t really want to take them on. I’ll leave this alone as well.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Alexander Zverev

The two winners from Monday conclude the day inside the o2 Arena on Wednesday evening when Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Alexander Zverev with a spot in the semi-final a potential reward for the man who comes out on top.

The Greek star is likely to be confident of picking up the victory given that he leads the head-to-head between the pair 3-1 which includes winning their last three matches, but the defending champion Zverev looked ready to challenge hard to make a successful defence of the title when he blasted Rafael Nadal away on Monday night. Was Zverev good or Nadal below par? I sense it was a bit of both but either way Zverev should be confident himself in these conditions.

The last three matches between these two have had either three sets of 23 games in them and I’m expecting to see quite a few games here. I think both men will be able to defend their serve well here and there isn’t a whole lot between the pair. You sense there is a bit of a rivalry forming here so neither will want to lose so I think over 23.5 games is the way to play this one.
