2019 Australian Open Tennis – Day 8 Betting Preview

The quarter final line up in the Australian Open will be decided on Monday at Melbourne Park and it has to be said that with the schedule on show we could be treated to one of the best days of tennis we will see in 2019.

Every one of the eight matches on the card has absolute quality written all over it and the schedule has been put together in a way where there shouldn’t be a whole lot of overlapping so for tennis fans it is a case of getting the popcorn and enjoying a wonderful day of action.

Rod Laver Arena

We begin on the main court with a legends doubles match but when the singles play gets going it is top drawer all the way. It starts with the US Open champion Naomi Osaka continuing her quest for a second successive Grand Slam title when she goes up against the Latvian ace Anastasia Sevastova before Alexander Zverev will be looking to make it into a first Melbourne title when he goes up against a resurging Milos Raonic.

If that wasn’t good enough the night session could be absolutely spectacular with the world number one Simona Halep going up against Serena Williams in what has the hallmarks of being a special contest before Novak Djokovic takes on Daniil Medvedev to round off what will surely be a wonderful day on the main court.

Margaret Court Arena

It is singles play right from the beginning of the schedule on the second round as the former US Open finalist Madison Keys faces up against the Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina for a place in the quarter final. The second women’s match on court looks like being another belting contest as Karolina Pliskova will look to continue her good form when she goes up against the former French Open and Wimbledon winner Garbine Muguruza.

The men take centre stage in the evening when Kei Nishikori bids for a place in another Grand Slam quarter final when he goes up against another man looking to get back into the last eight of a major tournament in Pablo Carreno Busta in a contest which looks to have a tight and tense tussle written all over it.

Melbourne Arena

It is mostly doubles on the third court at this stage of a tournament and indeed we have to wait until the early evening before we see some singles action here but the one remaining men’s match will be played in this arena when two young bucks fight it out for a spot in the last eight when Borna Coric goes up against Lucas Pouille for the right to face either Alexander Zverev or Milos Raonic in the quarter final.

Men’s Betting

I’m expecting a lengthy match between Milos Raonic and Alexander Zverev on Monday. Both men have big serving games and while Zverev is a better rallier I just wonder how many balls he is going to get back. I would imagine breaks of serve will be at a premium here so the idea of there being more than 42.5 games looks a logical one. We should see a couple of tiebreaks here and with a couple more close sets we have our 43 games with a fair bit to spare I would suggest. Very much the over for me here.

Women’s Betting

You could literally attempt to pick the four winners in the matches on Monday and not get one right, such is the quality on the card but one player who I do expect to come through is Garbine Muguruza, who looks to be hitting the ball well and holding her nerve nicely. I fancy she’ll have the better of Karolina Pliskova. Pliskova has been in good form in 2019 so far but there were periods against Camila Giorgi in the previous round where she was ordinary at best and she won’t get away with them against the Spaniard. Muguruza might have gone through a couple of battles this week but her class hasn’t left her. At odds against she’s the value in this one for me.

Daily Accumulator

Sadly we didn’t get much joy out of Sunday’s accumulator but we’ll go again on Monday with another treble which will hopefully deliver a decent outcome for us. We’re nicely in profit for the week so one last payout will be nice.
