2019 French Open Tennis – Day 11 Betting Preview

The quarter finals of the French Open come to an end at Roland Garros on Wednesday and at the end of the day we will know the line-up for the semi-finals of the second Grand Slam of the season out in Paris.

There is still a chance of the top four in the world rankings battling it out in the men’s last four while the women’s event remains wide open but might have a couple of standout players heading into the weekend.

Day 10 Recap

A day that promised plenty once again failed to deliver as there were all too easy wins for Rafael Nadal, Jo Konta and Marketa Vondrousova. The headline act came from the Swiss pair of Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka who served up a cracking contest but even then that was done in four sets and left us wanting more.

It was not the best betting day for us however. It began with Jo Konta winning too quickly for our liking and while we got most of that loss back we then ran into Marketa Vondrousova who eased past Petra Martic but it could have been so different for us had the Croatian woman successfully served out the first set when she had the chance to do so.

Philippe Chatrier Court

With the women playing their semi-final on Thursday it makes sense to get the one women’s match on the card on the main court on Wednesday out of the way first. It sees the defending champion Simona Halep taking on the dangerous young challenge of Amanda Anisimova before the men’s world number one steps on to court when Novak Djokovic takes on Alexander Zverev in what is a repeat of the ATP Tour Final from last season which the German powered his way to victory in.

Suzanne Lenglen Court

The second court has seen some of the better matches of the week so far and it is set for a couple of tasty contests on Wednesday. As with the main court, the action here begins with the women on show when Ash Barty goes up against Madison Keys for a place in the semi-final. Last year’s beaten finalist Dominic Thiem then looks to make it back into the semi-final when he goes up against the highly rated and talented Karen Khachanov.

Betting

I’ll go with bets in both the men’s matches although how much play we’ll get remains to be seen because the forecast is average at best it has to be said. I fancy we will see over 3.5 sets in the match on Chatrier as Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev go at it. Zverev has a win over Djokovic on clay and whooped him at the o2 last year. I don’t think we’ve seen vintage Djokovic yet this tournament. We’ll probably see a better version of him now but I would be surprised if Zverev has come this far to throw the towel in. I’m expecting at least a four set battle in this one at even money.

I also fancy a fourth set in the other men’s match between Dominic Thiem and Karen Khachanov. The Russian really came of age for me on Monday when he took care of Juan Martin del Potro in a fairly ruthless manner with a great deal of power and variety in his game and while I suspect he won’t be good enough to see off the Austrian, I see no reason why he can’t trouble Thiem for periods of the contest. The game line for this one is 36.5 which looks a little on the low side to me for a match I expect to have at least four sets. I’ll play the over.
