2019 Gibraltar Darts Trophy – Last 32 Tips and Betting Preview

The last 32 of the final European Tour event of the season, the Gibraltar Darts Trophy, takes place across a couple of sessions of action with it being a huge day for those not yet in the European Championship itself.

The seeded players come into the event on Saturday which means that we get to see the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Rob Cross and Peter Wright on show for the first time this weekend on a good looking day of darts.

Afternoon Session

The UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall gets us underway on Saturday such is the strength in the field this weekend. He takes on Ryan Joyce in a good looking encounter before James Wade goes up against Paul Rowley. Krzysztof Ratajski will then look to make progress in another European Tour event when he takes on Steve Beaton and we are led into the interval by Jonny Clayton who faces a Kim Huybrechts who will be eager for wins to push for a place in the European Championship.

Rob Cross has an early tee time on Saturday as he takes on Krzysztof Kcuik for a place in the last 16 before Daryl Gurney takes to the stage in the afternoon slot. He meets Carl Wilkinson. The best is saved for last as far as the afternoon is concerned as Dave Chisnall goes up against Jeffrey de Zwaan in what should be a quality contest while two men who need to win oppose each other in the last game of the afternoon as Michael Smith faces Danny Noppert.

Evening Session

It is the second seeded Ian White who lifts the lid on proceedings in the evening session. He’ll go up against the European ace Michael Rosenauer before two rat-a-tat merchants collide as Jermaine Wattimena faces Dimitri Van den Bergh. It will be a slower pace in the third match of the night as Mensur Suljovic takes on Wessel Nijman before the last match before the break sees the top seed Michael van Gerwen looking to navigate a route beyond the in form Portuguese player Jose de Sousa.

Once the break has taken place we finish the day with four matches, the first of which sees Peter Wright facing off against the local lad Dyson Parody who has done well to make it this far. Joe Cullen then takes on Ritchie Edhouse before two northerners’ battle it out when Glen Durrant faces Chris Dobey in possibly the match of this evening session. The action concludes with Gerwyn Price meeting David Francis.

Betting

This is a tricky card to bet on but there are two bets that catch my eye. In the afternoon session Danny Noppert looks overpriced to put the final nail in the coffin of Michael Smith. Smith has had a wretched year by his standards and although he retains his ability and has the odd good run of form he is under a lot of pressure to win here. Noppert is too in fairness but at the same time he is the outsider and can relax more. He would be a big price on a level playing field so with one or two things in his favour I’ll play the value here.

Speaking of value I can’t ignore the 4/1 on Jose de Sousa to beat Michael Van Gerwen. I’m not going to say he is a good thing or a certainty or anything but he’s no 4/1 shot at the same time. You would expect MVG to be too good for him but de Sousa is no mug and he’s in great nick. Admittedly most of that form has been on the floor but form is form. I’d be surprised if MVG doesn’t win but I’ll pay to see if he does.
