We have our first double header in the Mzansi Super League on Sunday as two sides get their campaigns underway and two others look to boost their positions in the fledgling league table where matches come thick and fast.
We’ve had a corker and a washout in the opening two matches of the tournament so there is a lot of anticipation to see what comes along on Sunday where some top names are in action throughout the day.
Paarl Rocks vs Cape Town Blitz
The Paarl Rocks get their season underway in this match when they take on a Cape Town Blitz side who have already laid a marker down this term when they took care of the defending champions Jozi Stars in the opening match on Friday.
If Cape Town Blitz come on for the run like sides generally do in these franchise tournaments after getting a relationship going on the field then they could be tough to beat here. It will be interesting to see what the Rocks have to offer here. They were dealt a massive blow on the eve of their opener with JP Duminy ruled out of the event while they will be without James Vince for this match. They don’t lack for international quality in their ranks but I think the best bet lies away from the result outcome.
Boland Park has been a decent ground for the batsmen this season and I’m expecting the runs to flow here. Although the Blitz have a decent attack they still gave up 190 runs on Friday but they have a pretty fearsome looking batting line up of their own. The runs line for this one is quite low at 319.5. The first match here last season saw both sides hit over 200 runs each. I wouldn’t be surprised to see something similar here so I’ll take the over.
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants vs Jozi Stars
When the first match is done the attention will move to Port Elizabeth where the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants open up their campaign against the defending champions Jozi Stars who will want a win after losing their opening game on Friday.
I have to admit I was confident in how five of the six sides in this competition will perform heading into it but the one team I wasn’t sure about was the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants so I want to watch them and assess them before I bet on their matches. There’s a bit of rain around the Port Elizabeth area for game time which will make finding bets tougher anyway so I’m happy to watch whatever I can of the home side rather than risk a bet here.
