2019 Specsavers County Championship – Sunday 23rd June Matches Betting Preview

We reach the halfway point and head into the second half of the campaign in the two divisions of the Specsavers County Championship this week and with a couple of interesting title races taking shape and a good promotion and relegation battle there is plenty to look forward to over the latter stages of the season.

The latest round of fixtures is split up into two days of starts with three of them setting off on their four-day journey on Sunday with a couple more coming along on Monday. One or two matches look really pivotal.

Division One

There is no doubt about which is the biggest match in Division One this week. It is the one which features the leaders Somerset, who will be looking to remain on track for a second piece of silverware for the campaign when they head to Chelmsford to take on the defending champions Essex, who have found their mojo in recent weeks. The other match sees the two sides just above the drop doing battle when Surrey return to The Oval for the first time since the World Cup passed through when they go up against a Warwickshire who are suddenly beginning to show shoots of life.

Division Two

Just the one fixture takes place in the second tier from Sunday, we have to wait until Monday for the other ones. It sees Gloucestershire taking on Glamorgan in a match which is big for both sides. Glamorgan are going nicely this season and sit in second place but they are only a bunch of points ahead of Gloucestershire who have a game in hand of them so the win here could well be significant for either side.

Betting

Warwickshire initially interested me this week but their bowling resources are beginning to get a little stretched which is a concern for me so in the end I’ve decided to go with just the one bet elsewhere which comes in that big game down at Chelmsford where I like Somerset to beat Essex in what is likely to be a low scoring game.

Essex have ridden the back of Simon Harmer in their recent winning run but a turning wicket might not be the wisest thing for them here because Somerset have been based on them for the last few seasons and with Dom Bess back from his loan spell they can go in here with two England spinners and fight fire with fire in that regard. They will also be more suited to the conditions with the bat too. Essex are in a good run at the minute but Somerset are the team of the season so far and can show why here.

Tips

Back Somerset to beat Essex for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with Betfred
