The first day of the Tour Championship sees three of the four quarter finals either getting underway or concluding, when the final tournament of the inaugural Coral Snooker Series begins inside Venue Cymru in Llandudno on Tuesday.
We have to wait until Wednesday for the number one seed Mark Allen to come to the party but with Judd Trump, Mark Williams, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby, Stuart Bingham and Neil Robertson on show on Tuesday we are set to be spoilt rotten.
Afternoon Session
Judd Trump vs Mark Williams
The main match in the TV coverage on Tuesday afternoon will see the first session of the match between The Masters champion Judd Trump and the world champion Mark Williams. They will return to finish off on Wednesday afternoon for a place in the semi-final.
Judd Trump has been one of the players of the season but although he hasn’t taken this term seriously, if we needed a reminder of why we shouldn’t overlook Williams we got it at the Crucible Theatre last year when he went back to his best to win the world title. There are signs that Williams is getting it together and I’m going to take a watching brief on this one initially with the intention of betting on it ahead of the second session.
Neil Robertson vs Mark Selby
The only match of the opening day that starts and finishes on the same day is the quarter final between the Australian ace Neil Robertson and the world number one Mark Selby, who meet for a place in Friday’s semi-final.
All eyes will be on Robertson initially in this match because his partner has recently had their second child so he might be lacking a bit in sleep which could be significant here. This is obviously a big match for both men given the magnitude of the tournament, but I sense it is more important for Selby, who is crying out for a big run in a competition before Sheffield.
I think this could be a lengthy quarter final. Robertson has been in outstanding form in recent times and I’m expecting Selby to dig in and enjoy the longer format. Bet365 have an Asian total frames line of 14.75 which means if this ends 9-6 either way we win half the bet and closer than that we win in full. I don’t see this being won 9-5 or easier so I’m happy to get on the over here.

Evening Session
Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Stuart Bingham
The one match to start out in the evening session sees Ronnie O’Sullivan taking on Stuart Bingham in a clash between the last two tournament winners, with the first to nine progressing to Thursday’s semi-final against either Trump or Williams.
These two are pretty regular foes but at no stage really have I seen anything to suggest that Bingham thinks that he can beat O’Sullivan so unless the Rocket plays badly I don’t see the Gibraltar winner from the weekend delivering the goods here. I was looking at getting involved in the centuries here but the likes are big and the price skinny so I’ll leave this alone and assess it at halfway.
Tips
Back N.Robertson vs M.Selby – Over 14.75 frames (AH) for a 4/10 stake at 1.80 with Bet365
