The winner of the Turkish Airlines Open will be decided on Sunday when the third to last event of the campaign concludes out in Antalya, on what promises to be a wonderful and dramatic day of golfing action.
As well as a big title there is a huge amount of money up for grabs on Sunday so regardless of where the players are on the leaderboard, there is plenty to play for over the final 18 holes over the course of the final day.
Round 3 Recap
Moving day did not disappoint and it certainly didn’t for Matthias Schwab who extended his lead to three shots as he chases down his first title at this level. He sits on 18 under par ahead of a huge group of players who sit three back on 15 under par. They include our pre-tournament pick Robert MacIntyre as well as former Masters champion Patrick Reed and Tyrrell Hatton. Ross Fisher is also on this mark. A trio of players sit on 13 under including another of our outright bets in Victor Perez who could yet have a chance if Schwab sees the winning line too early.
It was a much better betting day for us on Saturday with Tyrrell Hatton coming through and delivering the goods for us in his three ball. To add to that two men put themselves right in the mix for a return on the outright market too which is encouraging. Hopefully we can maximise the profit on Saturday to take into the Nedbank with us.
Sunday Betting
We are left with just the outright market to go at on Sunday but I’m happy to give that a miss. Having had two 54 hole leaders not get the job done in the last month, it would be nice for us if Schwab opens the door for one of our two outright bets that are in contention to come through and land the title in a reversal to our recent fortunes.
Bookmakers are not convinced Schwab has an unassailable lead just yet as he is odds against to win with a three shot advantage. I see it that way too which is why I’m not getting involved in the market again. Robert MacIntyre is in an excellent position to pounce while Perez ran hot on the Sunday in China last week and I’m hoping he has another similar Sunday.
Sunday 3 Balls
The final threesome out onto the golf course sees Matthias Schwab out alongside Tyrrell Hatton and Benjamin Hebert at 8.30 GMT with Robert MacIntyre, Ross Fisher and Patrick Reed out in the penultimate group 10 minutes before that. Wherever you look on Sunday there are some decent groups on show as it goes so we are set for a decent finale to the tournament. I like one bet on Sunday and it comes in that final group.
Matthias Schwab/Tyrrell Hatton/Benjamin Hebert
Match tees off at 08.30 GMT
The final group onto the golf course on Sunday will be an interesting one to watch as we have two men looking for their first win on Tour in Matthias Schwab and Benjamin Hebert out alongside a seasoned winner, especially this deep into the year in Tyrrell Hatton.
Statistically Schwab is doing everything right this week hence his three shot lead going into the final round but the fact he might not necessarily need to win this three ball to claim the title and the fact he could easily find the winning line hard to get over I have to go against him. The same doubt about getting over the line sits with Hebert too so I’m taking Hatton here. To be fair if he could have holed anything over the first couple of rounds he could have been clear himself going into Sunday. He putted much better on Sunday and lost none of his ball striking. That progression and his experience makes me think he’s a good thing in this final group regardless of who ends up winning the tournament.
