2019 World Open Snooker – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The second round of the World Open makes up the Wednesday schedule out in Yushan and with a number of big star players escaping the opening round, we are going to get a lot of tasty matches between now and the time the tournament is won.

A few of those come on Wednesday where the likes of Mark Selby, Judd Trump, Ding Junhui and Shaun Murphy are among those looking to win their matches and make it into the last 16 of the competition.

Morning Session

There are world champions everywhere you look in the morning session and we have three of them on the TV tables. The main game is likely to be the one featuring two of those men who have triumphed at the Crucible Theatre as Shaun Murphy takes on Graeme Dott while on the other TV table Mark Selby will look to continue his good form when he goes up against a Noppon Saengkham who is a dangerous proposition for anyone at the minute.

The outside tables are in full use all day on Wednesday and there are some appealing matches on them. Jack Lisowski goes up against Xiao Guodong on one of them while the match between Kyren Wilson and Hossein Vafaei should be decent enough as well. Elsewhere Joe Perry meets Stuart Carrington while Dave Gilbert faces Anthony McGill. Zhang Anda meets Mark Allen and two Englishmen collide when Alfie Burden goes up against Ali Carter.

Afternoon Session

All eyes will be on the main TV table on Wednesday afternoon when the world champion Judd Trump faces another tough test just a day after having to come through a deciding frame against Sam Craigie. He meets stablemate Liang Wenbo for a place in the last 16 while on the other TV table the local hero Ding Junhui goes up against Martin O’Donnell for a spot in the next stage of the competition.

Once again some big names are on the outskirts of the arena. They include two tournament winners from last season in Stuart Bingham and Jimmy Robertson who face off in one of the matches. Michael Holt meets Barry Hawkins in another match while John Higgins takes on fellow veteran Mark Davis. Haining Open champion Thepchaiya Un-Nooh faces Craig Steadman and his Thai compatriot Sunny Akani meets Elliot Slessor. The other match sees the underrated Chinese ace Zhou Yuelong playing Fergal O’Brien.

Betting

After four winning match bets from four this week I’ll go with a couple more on Wednesday with the first of them coming in the morning session as Joe Perry takes on Stuart Carrington. Carrington beat Perry in the Riga Masters at the beginning of the campaign but I’m expecting Perry to get his revenge. He has slowly warmed up nicely this season and has a win over Judd Trump in China not so long ago which is a decent benchmark of his form. I mentioned on Tuesday how Carrington isn’t the best traveller and while he is improving in that area he isn’t yet the finished article by any means. Perry tends to go nicely in China and I expect him to win this with a bit in hand.

One of the big things ahead of the first round of the World Championship earlier in the year was how good a record Mark Davis has over John Higgins and although the Scot got the better of him over the two sessions of their match in Sheffield, he only won 10-7 so Davis challenged him again. In the first round here Davis powered past Matt Selt with the aid of a couple of centuries in a thoroughly good performance whereas Higgins outlasted Lu Ning as much as anything else. We know Higgins can click into gear at any point but there is something about playing Davis which doesn’t sit well with him. With that in mind, the Sussex potter looks a little overpriced to me.
