The Premier League weekend continues on Saturday afternoon on a day where in the week the plans for the European Super League took a massive backward step the race for the top four really intensifies.
Three of the contenders for those positions are in action on Saturday, a day where once again all the matches are being televised live in the UK meaning there is no reason not to sit back and enjoy 4.5 hours of top flight football.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Liverpool vs Newcastle United (12.30 – BT Sport 1)
West Ham United vs Chelsea (17.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
Sheffield United vs Brighton and Hove Albion (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

Preview
The action begins with one of the standout fixtures in the history of the Premier League as Liverpool look to move into the top four when they host Newcastle United revoking memories of those classic 4-3 battles at Anfield a couple of decades ago. Liverpool need a win to move into the top four for a few hours but Newcastle will be out for the three points as well. That would give them 38 points and pretty much secure another season of Premier League football.
The second match of the day sees the two sides sitting fourth and fifth meeting at the London Stadium as West Ham United look to overtake Chelsea and end the night inside the top four. Chelsea need to avoid defeat to remain in control of fourth spot. The action concludes at Bramall Lane where already relegated Sheffield United host a Brighton and Hove Albion side who are aiming to avoid following them to the Championship. A Brighton win would all but secure their safety.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the day and it comes in the final match of the night where I expect Brighton and Hove Albion to get the better of Sheffield United but I don’t expect a classic or a goal fest or anything like that. Sheffield United are a poor side. It might be that now that they are relegated they will free up and show what they have to offer but the compelling tale is that they have only scored three goals in their last 10 matches. It has been their problem all season and remains the case.
Brighton have won seven matches this season but none of them have contained more than 3.5 goals. It isn’t their style to take risks at the back at the expense of goals but nevertheless they rarely fail to create chances and good ones at that. They are the team under pressure here which does make me slightly nervous but they are a much better side than Sheffield United. I expect a low scoring away win in this one.
