Preview

The first two matches of the day sees the focus on the bottom end of the table. Burnley go into the day six points clear of the drop and they will be looking to increase that gap in the first game of the day when they host an Arsenal team who are probably playing to win the Europa League now. Sheffield United are rooted to the bottom of the table but they host a Southampton side who are plummeting towards them fast so both will be wanting to win when they clash at Bramall Lane.

When they are done the action heads to the midlands where Aston Villa host Wolverhampton Wanderers in a match between two sides who have offered different things are various times this season but might be finding out they don’t quite have what is needed to achieve their lofty aims. Brighton and Hove Albion have seen their lead on the drop zone cut to just three points so they will be eager to pick some up when they host a Leicester City side who will be determined not to let injuries ruin another excellent campaign.

Betting

There isn’t a huge amount I like over the course of these matches. I do think Leicester City are there to be taken on at the minute but I’m way past trusting Brighton and Hove Albion to convert any kind of meaningful percentage of their chances. That means I’ll focus my attention on Bramall Lane where even though they haven’t won for a while I do think Southampton are getting Sheffield United at the right time and can finally end their winless run.

I actually thought Southampton played well at Everton on Monday night but couldn’t convert a couple of key chances in the second period. Everton don’t look a bad outfit though so I’m not going to hold that against them. Encouragingly Southampton will be getting players back for this match and key ones at that in the form of Kyle Walker-Peters, Ibrahima Diallo and Takumi Minamino. That should strengthen them on the pitch and in the second half when they tire and have quality to come off the bench. Sheffield United have some proper issues defensively. They were struggling for personnel with Jack O’Connell and John Egan injured and now Phil Jagielka is suspended so there will be an area for the Saints to exploit. This might well be an occasion to look beyond the form and back the team who are much the better side. That is Southampton.
