We have another Super Sunday in the Premier League this week and it sees three matches taking place over the course of the afternoon and into the evening as six teams look to make moves up the fledgling league table.
We saw the top two from last season in action on Saturday and on Sunday we will see the league leaders do battle as well as a couple of the teams who will be looking to finish in the top four come the end of the campaign.
Southampton vs Everton (14.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
The opening match of the triple header sees one of the impressive improvers of last season take on arguably the most improved team of this current campaign when Southampton host the leaders Everton at St Mary’s Stadium.
This is the first time we will have seen Everton since the fallout from the Merseyside derby and while much of it has been blown out of proportion the one thing that hasn’t been is that they will miss Richarlison and James Rodriguez badly in this match. Southampton took a couple of games to get going this season but they look like they are up to speed now and will fancy their chances in this match. If you pushed me to bet I’d favour the Saints but I don’t really want to take Everton on given their form.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Newcastle United (16.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
The second match of the afternoon sees one of the teams who have been in and around the top seven in the last couple of seasons taking on a team looking to show significant improvement as Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Newcastle United.
Newcastle have shown some signs of improvement which should have been natural given the signings that they made in the summer and it will be interesting to see if they are more open and expansive here or whether they continue to look to be tough to beat and hope they get something at the other end. I don’t think there is any guessing about how Wolves will go about their business and while I’m slightly concerned that they are not what they were at the top end of the pitch these days I do think they’ll get the job done here. I’m not massively keen on taking Wolves at odds on but you can bump the price up to a respectable level by backing them to win and under 3.5 goals which with the defensive records of these two should be very likely. That is effectively a bigger priced way of backing Wolves to win.
Arsenal vs Leicester City (19.15 – Sky Box Office)
The final match of the day is the pick of the three matches as the two teams who have their eyes on big things meet at the Emirates Stadium when Arsenal host Leicester City. Both teams were in Europe on Thursday night so they are both in the middle of a demanding schedule.
Both teams have nine points from their five matches but they have got them in different ways with Leicester winning their opening three games before successive defeats to West Ham and Aston Villa. Only Liverpool and Man City have got the better of Arsenal this season so you could argue they look in the better shape of the two teams at present. Leicester will argue that the absence of Jamie Vardy cost them dear last time out and I think there is something in that to be fair. Arsenal might have won both their home matches this season but they were second best for long periods and they weren’t much more convincing against Sheffield United either. I think Leicester can get some sort of result here whether that is a draw or a win.
