There is one match left in the midweek action in the Premier League and we have saved the best for last as Liverpool look to make some ground up on those who have dropped points when they make the trip to the capital to take on Tottenham Hotspur.
Only Manchester City of the sides who started the round above Liverpool have won in midweek so the champions will be looking to claw some ground back but Tottenham harbour hopes of improving their league position as well so this should be a very intriguing match.
Where to watch
The match will be shown in full on the BT Sport 1 channel with the build up to the action beginning at 7pm and the game itself kicking off at 8pm.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham had a bit of a quiet spell around Christmas but the cup competitions came at a good time for them and allowed them to build up some confidence as a squad and they go into this game in decent form and surprisingly just one point below their opponents and with a game in hand of them, so a win here would have them looking very pretty in the race for the top four and they would only be five points off the top with an entire half of the campaign still to play.
There have still been the occasional slip up with Spurs in recent times but they have an attack which is dynamic enough to trouble any defence their come up against and the combativeness in the middle of the park to snuff out most sides too. Defensively they can sometimes be slack although that doesn’t tend to be against the bigger teams where they camp a little deeper and rely on the large threat they carry on the counter attack. Similar tactics to that are likely to be employ here.
Liverpool
Given how well they have been going over the last couple of seasons you would have to consider the recent form of Liverpool more than just a blip or a concern and something approaching a crisis. They haven’t won any of their last five in the Premier League and haven’t scored in the previous four, and then they were dumped out of the FA Cup, which usually wouldn’t be a problem to them but this time they played a strong side which isn’t often their modus operandi in that competition.
The lack of goals is certainly a big concern for a Liverpool side who have been free scoring in recent times but if they can discover their touch in front of goal again then despite some key personnel being missing they are keeping things tight to pick up a result. They do look like a jaded side though which is not good heading into this one where defeat may not end their title chances but would make a successful defence of their crown increasingly difficult to achieve.

Team News
Ben Davies appeared to pick up a problem in the cup win over Wycombe on Monday night so he is a doubt although he probably wouldn’t have started anyway. Dele Alli has been ruled out while Matt Doherty could also miss out for Tottenham.
Jurgen Klopp suggested ahead of the game that he might have his captain back with Jordan Henderson back in training. He could be utilised in midfield too as Joel Matip has also trained ahead of the game and could resume his role in defence.
Betting
It is hard to be on Liverpool here the way they are going although they are going to see plenty of the ball here which might encourage both their supporters and more importantly the players that are on the pitch for them. Having the ball hasn’t been the issue though, it has been breaking sides who defend deep down and they are likely to have to do that again here too. They didn’t make a great job of it when these two sides met at Anfield when they had to rely on a deflected effort and a goal from a set-piece for a 2-1 win.
This is the sort of match that Tottenham Hotspur excel in where they come up against a side who will defend high so that they can utilise their pace on the counter attack to cause significant problems for their opponents. I’m not completely convinced about Tottenham winning the game in order to back them to do so, particularly in light of the fact some of their players only played as recently as Monday night, but I’m happier that they will avoid defeat so the even money on Spurs on the Asian lines appeals here.
