Another round of matches in this crazy Championship season begins on Friday night when two London clubs collide in front of the cameras as promotion seeking Brentford host a QPR team who have come into some form.
These two sides are only situated a few miles from each other so even though there isn’t a crowd back for this there should be a competitiveness about it, especially given the congested nature of the league table.
Where to watch
The match will be screened in full on the Sky Sports Football channel with the build up to the contest beginning at 7pm and the match itself kicking off at 7.45pm.
Brentford
Given what they were expected to achieve this season, you would have to say it has been a bit of a slow start to the campaign for Brentford but I’m not going to hold that against them because it is very hard to just immediately bounce back from the heartache of losing in a play-off final like they did last term. That is the case when there is three months to get over it let alone this season when this one began barely a month after that Wembley defeat.
There have been signs in recent times that the Bees are getting it together. One thing which was holding them back at the beginning of the season was conceding a lot of goals so they will be pleased that they have only conceded one in their last five matches. Surprisingly the goals have dried up a bit in that run but with Ivan Toney in the side that is a run that is never going to last too long. When they click back into gear Brentford remain promotion contenders still.
QPR
I projected QPR as relegation contenders before the season began and it looked like they were heading firmly in that direction but a run of three wins in their last five outings have them on the fringes of the top half of the table, and a win here will move them level on points with their opponents here. Critics will claim that two of those wins came against strugglers in Derby County and Rotherham United but as I keep saying, you can only beat what is in front of you.
One trend which hasn’t changed from last season is the number of goals that QPR are conceding. They conceded a bucket load last term and already in this campaign they are up to 18 goals against from just 13 games so if they are going to go places that is something that will need to change. The positive for them is that despite losing the likes of Nakhi Wells and Ebere Eze they still have plenty of goals in them.

Team News
Josh Dasilva picked up a knock in the win over Barnsley in midweek and he might not be fit for this game. Emiliano Marcondes will hope he did enough in that game to force his way in from the start. Sergi Canos is pushing for a start too.
QPR have a few issues in defensive areas with Conor Matherson breaking his nose and Yoann Barbet also picking up an injury against Rotherham. It will be a relief that Rob Dickie is expected to have overcome an ankle issue to line up.
Betting
I get why both teams to score in this match is on the drift given that Brentford have tightened right up in terms of the amount of goals they have conceded in recent times but there aren’t many matches that QPR are involved in that do not see both teams finding the net and I don’t expect this to be one of them. Only one of QPRs last five matches have not seen goals at both ends so the 4/5 on BTTS here looks acceptable.
It might be that the most important statistic here or the most relevant one at least is the fact that seven of the last eight meetings between the two have had both teams scoring goals. The Brentford attack needs no introduction in terms of goals. They run right through their side but QPR have skilful players who can get forward in the areas that you can get at this Brentford side and are in decent form. I like both teams to score here.
