The Championship season continues on Saturday on a day where there were meant to be 10 fixtures in the division but the freezing temperatures across England have put paid to two of them so we are down to an eight-match card.
The TV match has survived the weather though so we have that to keep us entertained and then there are the various other ways of keeping up to date with the other games that are taking place throughout the day.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)
Nottingham Forest v AFC Bournemouth (12.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
Birmingham City v Luton Town
Cardiff City v Coventry City
Derby County v Middlesbrough
Huddersfield Town v Wycombe Wanderers
Norwich City v Stoke City
Reading v Millwall
Watford v Bristol City

Big Matches
The televised offering comes with the opening match of the day where the promotion chasers AFC Bournemouth will be looking to continue their recent turnaround when they make the trip to the City Ground to take on a Nottingham Forest side who have found some form themselves in recent times. Norwich City have the chance to regain top spot with the leaders Brentford not in action until Sunday. They host Stoke City at Carrow Road.
Best of the Rest
The other two sides in the top six who are in action on Saturday are Watford and Reading and they both have home matches to get stuck into. Watford host Bristol City while Reading welcome Millwall to the Madejski Stadium. At the other end of the table Wycombe Wanderers will look to give themselves a little bit of hope of avoiding the drop when they make the journey to take on Huddersfield Town while second from bottom Birmingham City host Luton Town at St Andrews. Derby County welcome Middlesbrough to Pride Park.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the afternoon and it comes from down in Wales where Mick McCarthy looks to have turned the fortunes of Cardiff City around and I expect that to continue on Saturday when the Bluebirds host a Coventry City side who have been doing enough to get by this term but who are just starting to show signs of finding the going a little on the tough side, as you would expect for a side who are back in the division for the first time in a while this season.
Cardiff were always a decent side under the wrong manager this term and while McCarthy doesn’t look to have done a huge amount other than to free some key men up, the results are clear for all to see. Although his two wins have only come against Bristol City and Rotherham, a side in a slump can take confidence from any wins and I expect them to take that winning feeling into this one and prove too good for a Coventry side whose only away wins have come at an out of their depth Wycombe and an average Millwall.
