The Championship weekend concludes on Saturday and it is another busy day at the top and the bottom ends of the table as we head towards the final quarter of what has been a relentless yet compelling season.
Usually on a Saturday we are treated to one match on TV in the UK but we have a bonus one this week with the season heading towards its conclusion. There are all the usual other ways of keeping up with the other games.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)
Watford v Nottingham Forest (12.30pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
Barnsley v Birmingham City
Bristol City v Queens Park Rangers
Coventry City v Derby County
Millwall v Blackburn Rovers

Preston North End v AFC Bournemouth
Reading v Sheffield Wednesday
Stoke City v Wycombe Wanderers
Swansea City v Middlesbrough (Sky Football)

Big Matches
The first of the two televised matches will see Watford looking to move into second place now that they know that Brentford will not be playing because of Rotherham’s Covid-19 issues. They host an improving Nottingham Forest side who might have a point to prove after their midweek defeat. The second televised match comes from the Liberty Stadium where Swansea City will look to keep up their chase for a spot back in the Premier League when they host Middlesbrough. The other key match in the promotion race comes from Carrow Road where the runaway leaders Norwich City host Luton Town.
Best of the Rest
At the other end of the table the two sides who are in the bottom three who remain in action on Saturday are both on the road. Wycombe Wanderers head to the Bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City in a match I don’t recommend watching while Sheffield Wednesday head to the Madejski Stadium to take on Reading. Bournemouth and Barnsley both saw Cardiff City slip up in the race for the top six on Friday night and they will be looking to take advantage of that. The former travel to Preston while the latter host Birmingham City.
Betting
I’ll go with just the one bet on Saturday afternoon and while I’ve been keen to keep Blackburn Rovers on side this season my faith in them has run out. They look like they are in a slump which they are not able to get out of and we probably know how it is all going to end – with a change of manager. Until that happens they might be worth taking on and I especially think they are worth taking on with a Millwall side who look like they’ve found the Midas touch on home soil.
The Lions have only won four home matches all season but three of them have come in their last four outings at The New Den and while you could question what it is that they have beaten in those matches, you would then have to counteract it with asking what they face here in terms of form. The answer is that they play a side who have lost six of their last seven matches and on the road lost seven of their last nine. Blackburn have had injuries this season but their form feels like it is deeper than that. I expect Millwall to take advantage here.
