The midweek action concludes in the Sky Bet Championship on Wednesday evening when the other six fixtures take place. As the international break draws closer and the end of the campaign is in sight these are three valuable points up for grabs for the teams involved.
As with Tuesday evening, we have one match on the main channel on Sky and the other five can all be seen behind the red button so if you have a bet on any of the matches there is a way of keeping up with it.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK TV in brackets)
Nottingham Forest v Norwich City (7pm)
Queens Park Rangers v Millwall (7pm)
Wycombe Wanderers v Barnsley (7pm)
Birmingham City v Reading (7.45pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
Blackburn Rovers v Bristol City (7.45pm)
Sheffield Wednesday v Huddersfield Town (7.45pm)
Preview
It is a big night at the bottom of the table where the televised action comes from St Andrews as Birmingham City will hope the appointment of Lee Bowyer will inspire them to pull away from the relegation danger. They host a Reading side who themselves could do with the points to come away from the chasing pack in the race for a play-off spot. Also at the bottom of the table Sheffield Wednesday will go in search of a first win under Darren Moore when they host Huddersfield Town while Wycombe Wanderers will look to back up Saturday’s win when they welcome promotion chasing Barnsley to Adams Park.
Norwich City will be looking to restore their 10 point advantage at the top of the table when they head to the City Ground to take on a Nottingham Forest side who are looking to climb the table. The other two matches sees four mid-table sides in action. There is a London derby between QPR and Millwall while Blackburn Rovers will welcome Bristol City to Ewood Park for a match between two of the more disappointing sides given their pre-season expectations.
Betting
There isn’t a huge amount that I like over the course of the night but I would have Barnsley a little shorter to beat Wycombe Wanderers than the 1.70 that you can currently get on them. I guess some of that is down to the fact that Wycombe won last time out but wins are still incredibly rare for the minnows whereas Barnsley make the trip to Buckinghamshire in exceptional form and certainly in need of another win with the pack closing in on them in the race for sixth.
Barnsley go into this match having won eight of their last nine matches and have won their last four away from Oakwell. They include wins at Bournemouth and Brentford so away matches hold no fear for Barnsley. One of the reasons for this excellent run of form from the Yorkshire outfit is they have a squad which is largely injury free which they have been able to rotate regularly and keep everyone relatively fresh. Wycombe haven’t had that luxury. There’s a gulf in class between these two which I expect Barnsley to expose here.
