The midweek action in the Sky Bet Championship concludes on Wednesday evening as another seven matches get played out on an evening where events at the bottom end of the table are very much under the microscope.
As with Tuesday evening, we have a match on the main channel to enjoy on Wednesday evening and the other six are all on the red button on Sky or you can get them via the club streaming services which have been so useful this season.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Millwall v AFC Bournemouth (18.00)
Rotherham United v Middlesbrough (18.00 – Sky Football)
Stoke City v Coventry City (19.00)
Wycombe Wanderers v Bristol City (19.00)
Birmingham City v Nottingham Forest (19.45)
Huddersfield Town v Barnsley (19.45)
Luton Town v Reading (19.45)

The televised clash is the one which is huge at the bottom end of the table where Rotherham United will be attempting to move to within a point of safety. In order to do that they need to beat a Middlesbrough side who look to have lost their way with little to play for. The other big matches come in the race for the play-offs where Barnsley will look to put paid to any possible charge for their position. They make the short trip to Huddersfield Town while Reading, the team looking to chase Barnsley down, make the trip to Kenilworth Road to take on Luton Town.
If Reading don’t win that match then AFC Bournemouth will be guaranteed a play-off spot if they come away from their clash away to Millwall with all three points. At the other end of the table it is as good as curtains for Wycombe Wanderers if they lose at home to Bristol City. Brimingham City aren’t yet safe but they will pretty much be if they can beat Nottingham Forest while Coventry City can secure another season of Championship football if they win away to Stoke City.
Betting
I’ll go with one bet for the Wednesday matches which hopefully fare a lot better than we did on Wednesday. It comes in the form of Birmingham City who look like they are powering to safety under Lee Bowyer, who has just gone back to basics but with an attacking threat rather than the dour and defensive nonsense that Aitor Karanka was serving up for so much of the season. Birmingham have won three and drawn the other in their last four matches.
What appeals just as much as that form for the Blues is the fact that they haven’t conceded a goal in those four matches despite taking on two of the top four in that time. They now host a Nottingham Forest side who lost to an average Huddersfield team at the weekend and who are the fourth lowest scoring team in the Championship this season, one who have only won six matches on their travels this season and only found the net 15 times in 21 outings. That struggle for goals might not improve against a Birmingham defence which is proven stubborn to break down. On the draw no bet line I like the hosts here.
