The German Masters has hurtled to the semi-final stage and both matches take place over what is always a great day of action inside the wonderful Tempodrom out in Berlin on Saturday with spots in the final up for grabs.
The one table set up in this iconic venue always brings out the best in whoever is performing in it and I’m certainly expecting no different here given that we have four world champions taking to the green baize.
Graeme Dott vs Judd Trump
The action gets underway with the current world champion taking on a former winner of that title when Judd Trump meets Graeme Dott in what feels like a one-sided match on paper and probably even more so with the way Trump has been playing so far this week.
Trump is looming large as the only man who can deny Neil Robertson the £150,000 BetVictor Series bonus and he looks in fantastic touch at the minute, He has hit three centuries this week and a host of other big breaks so it will be interesting to see if Dott tries to drag him into a scrappy affair. Dott has been to the final of this event before so he clearly has an affection for it but this is a big ask. Nevertheless, I respect him enough to watch and see how this one plays out.
Shaun Murphy vs Neil Robertson
The pick of the two semi-finals forms the match in the evening session of the day when Triple Crown winners Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson do battle for a spot in another final for two men who are having productive campaigns.
These two men are no strangers to competing at this stage of a tournament and as a result I’m expecting an absolute crackerjack of a semi-final here. Robertson is in search of a second title in as many weeks while Murphy already has a trophy under his belt this season and having made the last four of The Masters last month he is tracking pretty well as well so we are set up for a corker of a contest here.
These two played two best of 11 matches in 2019 and they both went to a deciding frame and I’m not ruling out more of the same here I have to admit. Whether it goes to a decider or ends 6-4 I’m expecting it to be that tight so rather than choose a winner, I’m happy to get on over 9.5 frames and watch what should be a classic match unfold.
