2020 Modus A Night at the Darts – Saturday 25th April Group 6 Tips and Betting Preview

The second week of the A Night at the Darts competition concludes on Saturday night and it does so with five players once again battling it out for league points from the comfort of their own home for our lockdown entertainment.

Friday night wasn’t the best night of darts that we have seen this week. Whether that was as a result of a lengthy Thursday session or the week catching up with the players remains to be seen but it is something to keep an eye on during Saturday’s play.

The Format

Each night from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Friday Recap

Martin Adams went from hero to zero on Friday night quite literally. Having won 11 out of 12 matches heading into the evening, he proceeded to lose all four matches and would now appear to be a sitting duck at the top of the overall table. Wessel Nijman needed a big night to launch his bid for glory in the overall table and he got just that with four wins from four. There was three wins from Jason Askew and a couple for Scott Mitchell but it was a disappointing evening for David Evans, who could only record one win.

It was a bad night for us from a betting standpoint with Adams failing so badly. We loaded our eggs firmly in the wrong basket there and came away with nothing from the group bet or the match bet to reduce the profit of what had been a pretty decent week up until that point. There is one more day to hopefully finish the week off well though.

Saturday Line Up

Martin Adams is done for the week and by not winning a single match on Friday he is now just two points above Wessel Nijman in the overall standings with the Dutchman in action on Saturday night. Jason Askew and David Evans are also both at the oche but to win the overall league they must win all four matches and hope Wessel Nijman wins no more than one game for the title to be decided on leg difference. Scott Mitchell and Boris Koltsov will be looking to play the role of party spoilers.

We have another guest on show over the course of the evening too. After the success of the appearance of Phil Taylor on Thursday night, Modus Darts have recruited the Queen of the Palace to play on Saturday so Fallon Sherrock will be in action. She will face all five men in best of seven combats but none of those results will count towards the overall picture.

Outright Betting

Wessel Nijman is the overall favourite to come out on top on Saturday, and the way he played on Friday night it is impossible to dispute that, however he only needs one win to overhaul Martin Adams at the top of the table and his intensity could drop thereafter. He is rightfully the 7/4 favourite and he might well go on and seal glory on the night but I can’t be betting on someone who only needs one win.

Of the others it might be that a night off will have done Boris Koltsov the world of good and if so he could be in the mix, while Jason Askew had a good night on Friday and will want to build on that. It hasn’t been the week that David Evans would have wanted but he has a chance to finish well but if I was pushed to bet I’d probably take the price on Scott Mitchell who once again has improved as the week goes on and could finish well. I’m in no rush to get involved though to be honest.

Match Betting

In all fairness there isn’t a whole lot that floats my boat in the match betting department either. On Thursday night I fancied Phil Taylor to lose a game and picked the right one but it is slightly different here. Fallon Sherrock is the outsider in all five matches and while it would be a surprise if she doesn’t win one of them, picking who she might beat is a tricky one. I won’t bother with that. Instead I’ll stick with a bet that has served us well all week.

That comes in the clash between Boris Koltsov and Wessel Nijman halfway through the evening. They have been banging in 180s against each other for fun this week and there is no reason to suggest that is going to change here. Both men have scored for fun all week and as I highlighted on Thursday, they have covered the 3.5 180 line in one-sided contests so if this is close it will be covered easier. I’m surprised we’re getting a 3.5 line still. Their three meetings to date have yielded 7, 11 and 6 180s. I expect another four here.
