The first group of A Night at the Darts from the Modus team went down very well on Monday evening with some wonderful darts mixed in with some truly disbelieving finishing but with the quality set to go up a notch on Tuesday, we should be in for another decent night of arrers.
As ever five men will be competing from their own homes for our entertainment and with a pair of world champions on show as well as two stars of the future we could be in for the best group we’ve seen so far.
The Format
Each night from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Monday Recap
The first night of the tournament was pretty much in keeping with the whole of last week as Wessel Nijman and David Evans battled it out for the title. The Dutchman came out on top winning all four of his matches and looking very good in the process. Evans picked up three wins so he’s still in decent touch heading into the second night of the week. Ritchie Edhouse was the straggler of the night after failing to buy a double.
The night was largely all about the legendary duo of Martin Adams and Raymond Barneveld, a pair of icons who have no fewer than eight world titles between them. They were competitive for large parts but just need to tidy things up at the end of legs if they are going to progress as the week goes on. It was a night to forget for us betting wise sadly and we’ll need to do better over the remainder of the piece.
Tuesday Line Up
One BDO world champion makes way for another on Tuesday as Martin Adams gets the night off to his own devices. He is replaced by the second Challenge Tour event winner Scott Mitchell who is basically a PDC player without a Tour card after his results in those initial batches of Challenge Tour events. All eyes will be on him to see if he can break up the status quo.
Elsewhere we might well be treated to yet another battle between Wessel Nijman and David Evans for the group title. Raymond Barneveld threw some of his best darts of the competition on Monday night though and if he progresses further he could well be competitive. Ritchie Edhouse only needs to brush up on his finishing to be right there too so this group is tantalising heading into it.

Outright Betting
It is Scott Mitchell I like here. Right now I believe he is the best of these five tungsten tossers and I expect him to prove that. There is a slight issue about him making his debut and we’ve seen a few players need a day or so to get used to the gig but I’m pretty sure Mitchell is a home man when it comes to practice anyway so that shouldn’t influence him too much. This should be a competitive group but the 4/1 on Mitchell is worth taking.
The other reason why I like Mitchell is he is a slow and methodical player whereas the two favourites for the night, Nijman and Evans, who it should be said are worthy of that position, are rat-a-tat players who are going to be standing around for fairly long periods while Mitchell throws against them. This isn’t a night where I see anyone winning all four matches unless that player is Mitchell but at 4/1 I’ll take Scotty Dog to back up my claims that he is the leading player of this quintet.
Match Betting
It is all about the 180s for me in this evening session and one match in particular which sees Wessel Nijman taking on David Evans. Both these men have scored very well throughout the entirety of these tournaments and given that they throw at the same pace and will be forming something of a rivalry now I fancy the heavy scoring to continue when they meet in what could be a huge game in match eight of the night.
It was their match which decided the group on Monday and there were five 180s in that game. Indeed since the middle of last week there have been four or more 180s every time they have met and they have been the standout players on show all along. The line for the 180s in this match is 3.5 and it would be no surprise if either cover it on their own. Between them it should definitely get covered though.
