The first pool of players conclude their week in the Icons of Darts competition on Friday and after two very good outings so far, all six players on show will be looking to end another week of lockdown with a group title.
We’ve seen some excellent darts in this pool so far this week and with everyone fully up to speed and having had some action under their belts, we should expect to see the best of all of them throughout the play on Friday.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday six players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the six players will play each other once over the best of nine legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Thursday Recap
We saw something special on Thursday as for the second time this week Scott Mitchell won all five of his matches to come out on top in the second pool of players. He dominated a day which saw Paul Nicholson finish as his closest challenger once again. He picked up six points and then there were four points for Mark Webster, Stephen Burton and Andy Jenkins, who for the second time in a row won his opening two matches before fading fast. There was a first win of the week for John Brown too.
We didn’t fancy too much in the betting on Thursday but the one bet that we did like came in safely enough. For the second time this week we went with Paul Nicholson to beat Mark Webster and once again it was successful with Nicholson not playing his best stuff by any means but still having more than enough to secure a 5-1 win which equated to an even money winner for us.
Friday Line Up
We are back with the players that graced our devices and streams on Monday and Wednesday which means that Martin Adams headlines the group once again. Boris Koltsov won the group on Wednesday and he will look to begin his own period of dominance with another win on Friday. David Evans was second on his return to action on Wednesday and he should be primed for a display that sees him go close once again here.
The other three players in this pool have looked out of their depth a little so far this week. Fallon Sherrock is one of those in action on Friday. She’s had a bit of ridiculous stick from a troll on social media so that might affect her game negatively here. Scott Marsh continues to frustrate me. He clearly has good stuff in him but can’t seem to translate that into results while Dave Parletti will be hoping for a big finish to his week.

Outright Betting
I haven’t got involved in this group so far this week because I saw it largely as a two horse race and a three horse race and nothing has changed in that regard. I would go as far as to say that it would be the biggest shock in the Modus leagues so far if one of the three outsiders wins this group, such is the quality of the three main protagonists. I see this between Martin Adams, David Evans and Boris Koltsov I have to say.
The issue that I have then is that neither of them are bigger than 3/1 and that would be the benchmark of value. If I was pinned down to back someone I would go with David Evans at 2/1. I think there is a lot more to come from him now he has blown away the cobwebs but there isn’t a whole lot of juice in that price when you consider the ability of Martin Adams and Boris Koltsov. I’m in no rush to get involved in the group.
Match Betting
I’ll go with the one bet in the match betting front. This hasn’t been an easy group to bet on all week because of those three strong and three weaker elements to it. I don’t want to bet in the matches between the strong players but they are that good that the handicap lines against the weaker ones are on the 50:50 side of things. The best thing is to wait for better betting opportunities either on Saturday or the weeks ahead, but I do like one before then.
That is Scott Marsh to beat Fallon Sherrock. I get the impression Sherrock was a bit shaken up by the abuse she received for losing a game on Wednesday, and she is entitled to be that because it is ridiculous that anyone would give abuse out for someone losing a match. That could mean that she struggles to play at her best in this match which is the opening one of the day. Sherrock actually beat Marsh on Monday in a deciding leg but they’ve met four other wins over the best of nine and Marsh has won the lot either 5-1 or 5-2. I’ve got to think he wins this as well and the 17/20 on him doing so will do for me.
