It is the final day of another week of Icons of Darts action on Saturday, as the team at Modus continue to bring us plenty of darts to keep us entertained throughout this ongoing lockdown period courtesy of players playing from their own homes.
We are back with the second pool of players who will play for the third and final time this week on Saturday, and if the first two groups with these men are anything to go by we should be treated to a very good day of action.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday seven players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the seven players will play each other once over the best of seven legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Friday Recap
It was a day to remember for Boris Koltsov. The Russian picked up six wins from six to run away with the group title, one which he had sewn up quite early on as he was one of the first in action over the course of the day. Martin Adams was second to him with five wins and then we had Fallon Sherrock who won four of her six matches. It was another positive day for James Hubbard as he came away with three wins while the winner of the first two days, Justin Smith, had to settle for a couple of victories on Friday. Diogo Portela had one win while Keelan Kay ended his week winless.
It was a decent enough day for us betting wise with both match bets coming through. Boris Koltsov was second best for the majority of his match with Martin Adams but he came good in the deciding leg and then Fallon Sherrock saw off Keelan Kay despite being 2-0 down at the outset. It wasn’t quite a perfect day with Smith failing to win the group but based on the frustrations of the week to date we’ll take it.
Saturday Line Up
We are back with the better group of players on Saturday, including the man who is going for a third group win of the week in David Evans. He has only lost one match in 12 so far this week and will be expected to win the group. Arron Monk was his closest challenger on Thursday and is the only man to overcome Evans so their battle on Saturday could be one to watch. Wessel Nijman is the other member of the favoured trio in this pool and he’ll be out to prove a point after a couple of below par days.
Scott Mitchell couldn’t back up his solid effort on Tuesday when he took part on Thursday so this is a chance for him to do something for the final time this week. That is also the case for Darryl Fitton whose debut week ends here. Paul Nicholson swaps the microphone for the oche while Adam Huckvale is back in this pool having been swapped into the other one on Wednesday when Keelan Kay was unavailable.

Outright Betting
I suspect we are in for another day of knowing the fate of the protagonists early because the three fancied runners are all up very early in the day. They are David Evans, Wessel Nijman and Arron Monk. Evans is the favourite to win on Saturday but he’ll need to hit the ground running as his first two matches are against Nijman and Monk and they come in the first three games of the day. I’m not convinced Nijman is a runner here. He has been below par all week.
Of the three I would probably side with Monk at twice the price of Evans but that match in the third game of the day looks pivotal and if he doesn’t win that I fear his head will sink like a brick in water. There isn’t really much else to interest me in the other players. You’ve got to think five wins and a healthy leg difference will be needed to win this group and I’m not convinced any of them can manage that in this company.
Match Betting
I’ll finish the week with just the one bet because this pool of players has been completely unpredictable throughout, with the exception of David Evans and even he has won a lot of matches 4-3 this week which could have gone a different way. I had a decent day on Friday and I’m not wanting to give it all back on Saturday but there is one bet that I think has a better chance of landing than the odds would suggest.
That comes in the match between Paul Nicholson and Wessel Nijman where if the Dutchman is going to win I fancy he’ll do so by a decent enough margin. Nijman has won five of their six meetings in the various leagues to date and only one of those went to a deciding leg so the 11/10 that the youngster wins 4-2 or easier here is acceptable. I keep droning on that things are a struggle for Nicholson at the minute and he has only won 12 out of 30 matches since this competition changed format. Nijman is much the heavier scorer of the two so as long as he does nothing daft in the finishing I expect him to win this no worse than 4-2.
