2020 Modus Icons of Darts – Thursday 16th April Group 4 Tips and Betting Preview

The second week of the Modus Icons of Darts moves into the latter half on Thursday when five players are one again let loose in their homes to provide us with some darting entertainment throughout the afternoon.

We saw the best afternoon of the week so far in terms of standard on Wednesday, which suggests that the players on show might be warming to their task a little bit and hopefully we get much more of the same on Thursday.

The Format

Each day from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartshop.tv.

Wednesday Recap

We had another group decided on leg difference on Wednesday with Arron Monk finally getting his nose over the line to give himself a little birthday present. He edged out Jason Askew with both men finishing on six points with Jarred Cole and Andy Jenkins just in behind them on four points. It was a day to forget for the winless Rob Collins although his -8 leg difference highlights how competitive he was in his matches.

Sadly that was no use to us having backed him to win the group and beat Jenkins in his opener. That looked good when he led 2-1 but then he ran into some relentless finishing from the Hampshire man and things never really got much better for the Challenge Tour winner of earlier in the year from there. It all means a serious turnaround in our form is needed.

Thursday Line Up

We were without Tuesday’s winner Paul Nicholson on Wednesday but he steps back into the fold on Thursday and replaces his fellow veteran of the game Andy Jenkins, for whom it is his day off. He goes into battle against the young guns who have impressed this week in Jason Askew and Arron Monk while Jarred Cole will be out for some success over the course of the day and Rob Collins will be looking for some much needed wins to get himself in the overall mix.

Outright Betting

I wasn’t going to get involved in the group betting on Thursday but I’ve been priced into it with the 12/1 that is on offer on Jarred Cole. Cole had his best day so far on Wednesday when he won two and lost two but on each of his four matches he registered an average above 90 and found himself in what was a group final for the title in the last game of the afternoon but ran into Arron Monk in sensational form.

It might be that Monk and Askew continue to dominate the tournament on Thursday but Paul Nicholson is very much a spoiler and Cole himself showed when he demolished Askew 5-0 on Wednesday that he can upset the applecart as well. Nobody should really be 12/1 in this sort of event especially with two wins the day before. Cole might just be warming to his task and I’ll have a small investment on that.

Match Betting

The reason why I was tempted into taking Jarred Cole outright is because I’m keen on him in one of his matches on Thursday. That is the one against Rob Collins, who actually has played better than his two wins in 12 matches so far, but he just can’t seem to consistently play his best stuff throughout a match and that has been his undoing.

Cole has won three matches this week so far and two of them have been against Collins so apart from the fact that Collins won a Challenge Tour event earlier in the year I don’t really see why Cole is the outsider in this match. He beat Collins 5-2 on Tuesday and 5-3 on Wednesday and at the prices I’m happy to get involved in him to beat him for a third straight occasion, particularly when by averaging seven points and 6.8 points more than Collins those wins were justified.
