The Modus Icons of Darts competition continues on Wednesday and it is a return to their home oches for the first pool of players as the effort to keep us entertained throughout the ongoing lockdown period is maintained.
The players that were on show on Monday are the ones who will be under the microscope once again on Wednesday. They didn’t deliver much in the way of quality on their first outing this week so a lot more will be expected of them here.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday seven players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the seven players will play each other once over the best of seven legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Tuesday Recap
As we thought it might be, it was a day absolutely dominated by David Evans on Tuesday. Not only did he win his six matches but he only dropped six legs in them which was quite some achievement against that field. Four men finished with three wins, which shows how far Evans won by. Scott Mitchell came out second on leg difference with Darryl Fitton third by virtue of beating Wessel Nijman. Paul Nicholson was the other man with three wins. Arron Monk had a bad day and could only find two victories while Adam Huckvale was worst of the lot, coming away with a single success.
It was a mixed day on the betting front for us. Arron Monk was poor for most of the day having seen his chances of winning go by the wayside pretty early on and one of the matches he was at his worst in was against Scott Mitchell. That bet lost but we came away with a tiny profit on the day courtesy of David Evans cruising past Paul Nicholson as we expected.
Wednesday Line Up
I said above that the players who were on show on Monday are coming out to play again on Wednesday but that isn’t actually the case as Jarred Cole has been replaced by Fallon Sherrock, who makes an appearance ahead of her soft tip clash with Phil Taylor on Thursday night. She will go into a group which contains the winner from Monday in the form of Justin Smith as well as the former world champion Martin Adams.
Boris Koltsov was second on Monday and he is back in this group looking to go one better here, while Keelan Kay will be looking to build on what was probably his best showing in a Modus event to date. The two stragglers from Monday are back too looking to perform a whole lot better than they have done thus far. They are the Brazilian star Diogo Portela and James Hubbard, who to be fair came out on the wrong end of some deciding leg defeats.

Outright Betting
There isn’t a huge amount of value around for this group I have to admit. The bookmakers have the trio of Justin Smith, Martin Adams and Boris Koltsov considerably ahead of the rest and although Fallon Sherrock could be dangerous I do think that is about right. Smith and Adams are in action early in the day so they could be away and gone by the time Koltsov comes to the party. That might lessen the field down a bit.
If I am honest, I think Smith comes through the group again. He has the scoring power of most in this group but he just looks more assured than anyone else from 100 and in with the possible exception of Fallon Sherrock perhaps. Keelan Kay could be competitive if he gets off to a decent start while I need to see much more from Portela and Hubbard before going near them. It is Smith who I think wins the group but I want more than 5/2 to commit my money so I’ll sit the daily title out.
Match Betting
I am going to centre a couple of bets around Boris Koltsov over the course of Wednesday and the first of them comes in his match against Martin Adams where I just think the tidier finishing of the Russian will serve him well. Adams didn’t do too much wrong on Monday but his finishing got scrappy the longer the day went on and that is an issue. There wasn’t a lot he could do when he played Koltsov anyway, running into the Russian averaging 105 and in insane form. If that happens here then Adams has a problem but unless Wolfie pins the doubles spot on I’m not sure he’ll outscore Koltsov enough to win. You can get even money on Koltsov to win this match and for me that is even money the Russian finishes better which looks decent enough to me.
There is half a chance that Koltsov could be playing for something in the final match of the day which sees him taking on Diogo Portela, a player I not only expect him to beat, but do so by hitting the most 180s along the way. The Brazilian player isn’t the heaviest scorer in the game it is fair to say. He only hit two 180s over the whole of the day’s play on Monday whereas Koltsov hit 12 – basically an average of two per match. On Monday these two opened the show and Koltsov won 4-0 in legs and 2-0 in the 180s. The 10/11 he repeats that double feat is just too big to refuse.
