2020 Nitto ATP World Tour Finals – Singles and Doubles Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The final day of tennis action inside the o2 Arena in London takes place on Sunday when the last ever finals of the Nitto ATP World Tour Finals are played out on what promises to be a tantalising day worthy of the occasion.

As ever we have the doubles final followed by the singles conclusion on what is the last day of the tennis season. We don’t yet know when and where next season will begin so everyone on show will be giving their all here.

Wesley Koolhof & Nikola Mektic vs Jurgen Melzer & Edouard Roger-Vasselin

There is guaranteed to be a new name on the doubles trophy when Wesley Koolhof and his partner Nikola Mektic take on Jurgen Melzer and Edouard Roger-Vasselin for the title in a match which sees the four men playing with their partners for the last time.

Melzer is playing his last match as a professional here as he retires after this tournament and it might be for that reason that the tennis gods seem to be smiling down on him and his partner Roger-Vasselin. This pair have got themselves out of holes that even Houdini would be proud to escape from. Koolhof and Mektic are going their separate ways after this final and while they have undoubtedly been the best team in the tournament there is something so weird going on with the Austrian-French pairing that I just can’t take them on. I can’t back them either because their luck has to run out soon so I’m just going to watch the doubles final without a betting interest.

Daniil Medvedev vs Dominic Thiem

The final match of the season sees the world numbers three and four battling it out for their first Nitto ATP World Tour Finals singles title as Daniil Medvedev takes on Dominic Thiem, with both bidding to join some of the greats of the game in getting their name on this trophy.

Both these players had monumental semi-final showdowns with two of the best in the business Thiem outlasted Novak Djokovic in a final set tiebreak which was an absolute epic contest while Medvedev did something nobody does and beat Rafael Nadal despite dropping the first set, the first time in 72 matches that the Spaniard has drawn first blood and gone on to lose the match, so both men should be nicely tuned up here. Thiem begins the final with a head to head lead of 3-1 including their most recent meeting in the semi-final of the US Open which the Austrian won 62 76 76.

Those of you who have followed me all week will be sitting nicely going into this final as you’ll be in possession of a betting slip with Thiem to win this match at 8/1 and I’m not going against him here. I think he wins the final but in terms of a bet on the contest the over 23.5 games has to be the way to play this. Their last two sets in New York were both tiebreaks and it wouldn’t surprise me if we see more of them here but it would surprise me if this final doesn’t go the distance. Whether it goes the distance or is won in two tight sets I think we’ll get at least 24 games like we did last year when the trophy was settled in a deciding set tiebreak. Hopefully Thiem wins a classic final.
