The PDC Home Tour III continues on Wednesday when the final group of this week takes place inside the homes of seven players who will all be eager to pick up as many points as they can over the course of the day in order to boost their position in the overall standings.
All seven players who set up their cameras in front of their oches on Wednesday have already played in an group in the Home Tour III so they will know what it is all about, meaning the task at hand is to get up to speed quickly and start winning points.
Group 9 Recap
That is exactly what Stephen Bunting did on Tuesday. He actually lost his opening match but won the next five to win Group 9 and boost his position in the standings significantly as a result. Kai Fan Leung was another to make a proper move on Tuesday when he won four matches while there were three wins for Daniel Larsson and Ross Smith. The other three men, Mickey Mansell, Andy Hamilton and Ciaran Teehan all ending their day with a couple of wins to add to their total.
It wasn’t the day we were after from a betting point of view on Tuesday as both the bets we went with failed. One of them was only a speculative one on Andy Hamilton to win the group but that never really got going. The more disappointing one of the two was the second one which was on Mickey Mansell to beat Kai Fan Leung and despite having the throw in the deciding leg the Northern Irishman threw a shocking set of darts to get broken and lose so we’re hoping for a turnaround on Wednesday.

The Favourites
We have had a standout name in the last few groups but that isn’t the case on Wednesday when world number 49 Ron Meulenkamp is the highest ranked player in the field. He went very well in the previous Home Tour so it probably isn’t a surprise that he is the favourite to win this group. Steve West might lay claims to being the best player in the group and he is a second favourite to have a good day. World Cup player Marko Kantele and Steve Brown who went well in the group he played on Monday are both a single figure price to win the group.
The Outsiders
There are three players who can be backed at a double figure price to win the group. Peter Jacques is the shortest of those and after three wins in his first group he probably shouldn’t be completely dismissed here. Joe Murnan was a very good player not so long ago so he should be respected based on that form although it has to be said he’s been nothing like as good since then. Former world finalist Kirk Shepherd completes the group line up.
Group Betting
I took my chances in the group betting on Tuesday and came up dry and I’ve got to be honest given the weak looking nature of this group I wanted to get stuck in again but I can’t really find anyone who is a price that I like to do it with. It might be that even though he is only moderately ranked as the top seed in the group that the consistency of Ron Meulenkamp gets the job done but he’s a pretty skinny price considering he doesn’t have a huge quality advantage over the others.
If I was going to back an outsider I might have chanced Steve Brown at 11/2. It could be that the recency bias of him having played as recently as Monday could be a major advantage but quite a few of these players are in the Players Championship Finals which begins on Friday so they should be hard at work on the practice board, even more so for those players who have the World Championship coming up so I’m not convinced that is a huge advantage. I’m happy enough to leave this one alone.
Match Betting
I’ll go with one in the match betting on Wednesday though, one which we have to wait fairly late in the day for as Steve Brown takes on Marko Kantele in a match the Englishman might just be overpriced to win at just under the 10/11 mark. I say that for a couple of reasons, the first of which is a point I’ve made above in that Brown was in action on Monday and might well have a competitive edge on the rest.
To be fair by the time this match comes around both will have played five games already so any advantage there is there will be minimal so the other reason I like Brown comes into play. That is of course because he has the throw and it really can’t be emphasised enough just what a big thing that is in a seven leg match. Brown averaged 105 and 95 in his last two matches on Monday and if he builds up his form again on Wednesday then by the time this comes around he should be fully dialled in to win this.
