2020 Premier League Darts – Week 4 Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League Darts season leaves the UK for the first time this week as the action rolls into Dublin for the fourth night of the competition, one which could be pivotal for those looking to avoid the drop next month.

William O’Connor gets the honour of being the ‘Challenger’ in front of a home crowd but his test is as tough as it gets. He takes on Michael van Gerwen and there are some decent matches on the remainder of the card.

Glen Durrant vs Nathan Aspinall

Two surprisingly in form men meet to open up the night inside the 3Arena in Dublin when Glen Durrant, the early leader in the table, takes on Nathan Aspinall who pulled off a huge win over Michael van Gerwen last week.

These two men haven’t just been in good touch on the Premier League circuit, they have both been playing well in the Players Championship events too. I believe Durrant is the better of the two players and more assured and that should stand him in good touch here but this is one of those matches where any outcome is possible given how well they are both playing.

Rob Cross vs Gary Anderson

Two former world champions grace the stage in the second match of the night when Rob Cross takes on Gary Anderson in what could be a key match for both men with each of them heading to Dublin with three points to their name.

Cross hasn’t been as convincing as his results have suggested and he hasn’t done a huge amount away from the stage either. Anderson has won a floor event this season which suggests he is in the better form of the two but you would be stretching it to say he is at his peak form. This is another that could go either way and while I hope Anderson wins to strengthen his outright claims I’m happy to sit this one out.

Daryl Gurney vs Michael Smith

The third match of the evening could be the most entertaining one as two of the heaviest scorers in the game collide when the Northern Irish player Daryl Gurney takes on Michael Smith in a match neither will want to lose given their indifferent starts to their campaign.

I don’t trust either of these enough to make one of them to win the match. Smith is probably playing better but keeps coughing up match darts at double while Gurney at least got some confidence and form back on the Players Championship events at the weekend. The bet I do like though is the better than even money for more than 6.5 180s in this game. These two are absolutely no stranger to the 60 bed and pepper it regularly. We only need 3 180s each and then one on top from someone and that is well within their range. I’ll play the over here.

William O’Connor vs Michael van Gerwen

The penultimate match of the evening sees the ‘Challenger’ in action when William O’Connor takes on a Michael van Gerwen who will be reeling from his defeat last week and his mood not done any better by failing to win either of the tour events over the weekend.

O’Connor can consider himself slightly fortunate to be the ‘Challenger’ here. Steve Lennon is the rising star of Irish darts and deserved the spot more and that might put even more pressure on the man who is known as ‘The Magpie’. MVG isn’t playing well. Don’t let anyone fool you otherwise, but unless the crowd seriously gets in his head he shouldn’t need to play well to come through here. He isn’t playing well enough to trust on handicaps so I’ll sit this out.

Gerwyn Price vs Peter Wright

The final match of the night is a repeat of the World Championship semi-final which Gerwyn Price went into as a favourite but failed to land a blow on the man who went on to win that title in the form of Peter Wright.

It is Wright who goes in here as a favourite and I think that is entirely justified. He produced his best performance of the Premier League season last week and was delivering some insanely good darts on the floor over the weekend. To be fair to Price he won a tour event on Sunday having been beaten in the final of one on Saturday so he’s in good order as well. I just think Wright is that little more consistent and he can get the job done on a draw no bet line here.
